Year 6 and it is still potential for this guy? He has never had 1,000 yards receiving in a season and 2 good games out of 9 with us isn't making me go crazy. He is severely overpaid for his value. If he would come back here on a 1 year, $3 million "show me" contract, then I would consider it, otherwise he can go along with every other high paid veteran on the team. The team needs to blow everything up, that means finding a WR corps with actual WRs that can play outside. Harvin is an overpaid gadget player and a relic of a "win now" era that caused us to treadmill backwards the past 3 seasons instead of actually rebuilding and bringing in a base for long-term sustained success.
He proved it in year 3. 87 catches, 967 yards (same as Decker this year), 6 tds and 14 catches over 20+ yards. And that's not even counting his 345 yards of running or his 104 yd KR touchdown. Ponder was throwing to him that year, by the way. If he can get back to that level he's worth the money IMO.
IMO- harvin is a nice finishing piece to a veteran quality team Not a piece for a young team when you're in a rebuild mode- which jets are in like it or not- his (edited to) money , injuries, and bad attitude don't make him s a must-have at the moment Sadly
Agreed. I'd be looking to keep him. If we could draft Cooper then I could understand the case for moving on from him but we're not going to be in position to get him. Harvin, Decker, and Kerley is a nice group of receivers to build around.
My only issue: He's been injured as many games as he has been healthy. I'm not sure you want to plan on having him for more than 8 games a year and that those prices...
I voted no, but the option I wanted to vote for wasn't listed. Yes keep him if he restructures. If he refuses, then cya.
Cooper won't fall to 6 so I guess they should keep him. Not for his price though. Give him 6-7 mill and say take or leave. The Wide Receiver free agent market is actually loaded with talent this year.
No chance Thomas walks. Bryant is another story, the boys cant possibley keep him and murray. Answering the question, id say keep him if he restructures. He could be explosive, and can contribute, so why not keep him for the right price?
Of course he will restructure..he "might" get 3-4 million from somebody. Although why would he or anybody else want to stay with the Jets?
I don't think they have all offseason to make a decision. If he is on the roster in March, the pick goes from a sixth to a fourth. Thus we need a new GM quickly to see if he can renegotiate Harvin in the next 2 months. Otherwise it would be foolish to keep him all off season and cut him right before the season thereby losing a fourth rounder for what will effectively be a half season rental. The talent at the top of fourth round will be much higher than the top of the sixth. Between Harvins injury history, his likely desires compensation and our QB situation, I doubt he is here next fall.
Harvin seems to disrupt the flow of every offense he is in. Odd. I'd dump him but it is up to the new Coach/GM.
