Obviously, every team in the NFL is part of the league's management. However the Giants mgt. will not dictate in anyway how long Burress is suspended. If that was the case every media outlet would be looking to get comments from the Giants mgt. and not Goodell every time there's a Plaxico legal update. He's not even Giants property anymore. You can say by extension that the Giants have say in this matter but you know in reality that they have no say in what happens to Burress. This is Goodell's decision to make and his alone.
Godell can't be a punitive prick because there happens to be a Union. If Burress pleas out to a rather minor offense and agrees to serve prison time and has already lost 5 pay checks because of an NFL team suspension, he would look like he was piling on and in this case it's a player with a couple of SB rings who is well liked by his team mates. It's one thing to be a tough SOB when there are no consequences, but this is still a players league.
From what I have read, Plax does not want to do ANY prison time, no matter what. If Plax had not been so frightened of prison, he could have taken the plea bargain, done a few months time, and this would all be over already.
The guy should sue the club for pain and suffering, it probably hurt like a bitch when the gun went off.
Pacman Jones had I think about a dozen arrests and he was suspended for a season. Atleast a dozen I believe. Burress has had no off the field issue apart from the one in question...as far as I know. Do you think he'll be suspended for a season? Not even close to it. He has served a 5 game suspension from the Giants and that does count. He was suspended for the same issue. Its not like Giants were going to suspend him for a season and then NFL suspends him for another season if the issue was as bad. It doesn't work that way. U don't get punished twice for the same issue. Of course legal preceedings are apart. If NFL suspends him for lets say 8 games, he'd be gone for 3 games this yr. As far as I understand, a 5 game suspension is sufficient. I doubt if Goodell gives him anything more than an 8 game suspension (3 in 2009)
I thought this was a joke until I just read he wanted to be traded, doesn't Denver need a running back?
Plaxico Burress-WR-Giants Jun. 15 - 4:34 pm et Contrary to an earlier New York Post report, the Newark Star-Ledger writes that the Jets' interest in Plaxico Burress has cooled. The Jets have a need at No. 2 receiver, but the team reportedly believes the trio of Brad Smith, Chansi Stuckey and David Clowney is collectively adequate. The Star-Ledger believes the Jets are concerned about Plax's "bad-boy" attitude despite his obvious talent. Source: Newark Star-Ledger http://www.rotoworld.com/content/Home_NFL.aspx Don't know if this was posted already so sorry if it was. Anyways, I don't know if i believe it. I still feel that if Plaxico is cleared to play the jets will make a move at him
Sign him up... he makes every QB he's played with better. Any Discipline will come in 2010, while we have a chance to be in the playoffs, with him, in 2009. Sign me up
It kind of was a joke... everyone's so reactionary around here when there's a quality player that wants to be traded or becomes a free agent. Everyone always jumps up and says they want that player. It's wishful thinking, and I would rather have him over Plax. They're both head-cases, though.
Burress' lawyer announced this afternoon that he expects his client to play this fall. We should sign the SOB for a year if that becomes reality.
I don't think i would want Marshal. It's one thing to be a bad thug and shoot yourself in the leg, it's another thing to be a bad thug and beat women constantly.
I sure don't want to believe that. If I did believe it I'd start wondering what other things I will do with Sunday afternoons this fall. I have to believe this is posturing by the Jets.
