I've heard that but if he really wants to 'stick it to the Giants', he'd be better off in the Giants division, not ours. And, as much as I hate the Giants, I can't see where Plexiglass gets off finding fault with them over his own crappy attitude, even before his legal woes. I was thankful to the guy for about three minutes after the SB. To me, it was tough to actually root for the Giants, but the alternative was worse - impossible, actually. I wish BOTH teams could have lost, but I digress. So he starts getting accolades from the media 'that he's changed', that he's 'matured', only to have his newfound 'maturity last for about as long as those same three minutes and gives us a shocker by pulling the same garbage on his Coach - again. So, my question to him is, where are the Giants wrong for not keeping him after he shot himself like an idiot in light of the rest? Speaking of shooting, I'm not shooting the messenger, it's just my two cents. I don't want the guy.
Giants fans, to this day, claim they lost their Super Bowl chances last year b/c of Burress. If ONE guy can do that...I want him
lol he was just the one piece of the puzzle that made them lose...If you guys get him that doesn't mean you're a contender because you don't have all the other pieces that they have
Personally its a cheap bet and a good way to help who ever our QB is. That said the guy is a screw off, and probably going to be a good way to bring alot more attention and focus on the team which is probably unnecessary. Do I want him yes, is he a long term answer to our problems, probably not due to the lack of clarity with his long term legal situation. So long as he won't be gone when its most critical to the team, give him a one year deal with a team option for the future. Also as far has his bone head mistakes. He's probably less likely to screw up again given how much he has lost and has at stake. But then again given the fact that he passed up on jail time that would have allowed him to not miss any team (aside from a suspension he's going to get) b/c he didn't want to spend anytime in the bing, doesn't make him the sharpest tool in the shed, just another tool
I think Plax will be a great signing. You are putting Sanchez behind a great O-Line. You are hooking him up with a great RB core, WR core (Plax-Cotch-Stuckey), and a great D-Fence. Plax will have to keep his image clean if he ever wants to get a job in the NFL again.
It's debatable where he ranks, but I don't think it's debatable that he's far better than any receivers on our team.
Hey what was the Giants record this year when Burress was released/suspended? Can you refresh my memory? i think they won one game.
Agreed! He would be a true #1 on this team which has lacked a playmaker for a while. We should already have a deal done and in-place contingent on his being able to play.
The Giants beat the Cards, the Redskins and the Panthers without Plax. His absence from the field wasn't the reason the Giants collapsed and Eli didn't play "pitifully" in those games.
Eli is one of the most over rated players in the game. I can't even begin to tell you how many times Plaxi bailed him out on bad throws. When the Giants won the Super Bowl everyone claimed it was his "amazing" play that led them there. It wasn't amazing, it just wasn't as bad as he usually played. But because he's a Manning and plays in NY all of a sudden he's a star. The Giants were(and still are) a great team. All they needed was Eli to not play bad and they'd win. Yet they win, and he's all of a sudden one of the best QB's in the league, my ass he is.
You on crack son? Hardly anyone considers Eli a top tier QB. He was clutch and played well when he needed to and when it mattered most.
i swear every time i turn on espn they praise him like he's the next jesus. maybe it's cause i live near the most obnoxious giants fans and it just gets on my nerves.
What? Where do you come up with that conclusion? 3rd best WR in the league? So he is better than TO, Boldin, Edwards, Andre Johnson, R. Wayne, Steve Smith, Calvin, B. Marshal...to name a few??? Hell I'd take Steve Breaston over Burress right now if I had a choice. How on earth does he become the 3rd best WR in the league??? That too with a shot leg? right... But I would like to bring him in.
Losing Burress was the straw that broke the camels back, so to speak. Keep in mind that Osi was out for the season and Jacobs had a knee injury and was not at 100%. Despite all these loses the Giants kept playing well. They even played well in games where injuries had sidelined Burress. But, sadly, losing him long term was more than the team could overcome.
They beat Arizona IN Arizona with Plax only in on the first series. He was gimpy and hardly played against the Steelers as well. Those are both Super Bowl teams beat without him, do these 2 victories meet the lofty standards set by the almighty tubby?
There are so many things wrong here I don't even know where to begin. Here goes nothing though. 1. NO ONE ever said the Giants were a team that was "carried" by Eli. They were a team with a fierce pass-rush and a punishing running game. Eli was certainly a huge part of that success (see all his important drives for scores throughout the playoffs) but no one is saying he is the sole reason for their success. 2. If you look at the quality of the Giants' pass-rush, you will see it stayed pretty consistent during both the regular season and the playoffs. The running game's production stayed the same as well. The only thing that changed for the playoff run was that Eli elevated his level of play. When you add in Eli's improved level of play with all the ingredients from point number 1 and throw in a bit of luck/divine intervention, you get what happened in 2007. 3. If you're going to live in a fantasy world, you might as well make it one that you're happier in. Who ever said Eli was one of the best QBs in the league? I'm a Giants fan and I don't even think he's on the best in the league. He's in the top 10, I think, but shouldn't be any higher than 8 at the absolute highest. Now I am going to explain to you what happened to the Giants offense last year. Maybe this will help you understand more fully the team's offensive woes and Eli Manning's part of them. 1. Adjustments can be made, but you cannot revamp your entire offense in the middle of the season. The Giants had to use Domenik Hixon in the same role they used Burress. Hixon has a very different set of skills and filled this role with limited success. You also need to keep in mind that Hixon is a backup and has not had the reps in practice needed to build up chemistry with Eli. 2. Lost amongst the chaos created by Gloxico blowing a chunk of his leg off is the fact that as the season wound down, Amani Toomer stopped being a legit #2 WR. He's an FA now, and has garnered no interest from anyone. What does that tell you? This left Eli with Steve Smith, Domenik Hixon, and Sinorice Moss as his pass-catching weapons. Even Peyton (who clearly is the better Manning) would struggle with that group. 3. Brandon Jacobs injured his knee against Philly and never fully recovered. This lead to the running game, and the offense as a whole, losing the punishing and bruising element it once had. Ward is a great complimentary back, but he's not a guy that carries the load on his shoulders. All these things came together to lead to the demise of the Giants offense and, ultimately, season in 2008. I hope you have found this experience educational and can see why I get so fired up when you make unfounded, unwarranted, and frankly untrue statements like the ones you made before. Cheers.
Back on topic....I was against Burress at first, but if he can get his head straight and stay out of trouble, he would be a perfect fit for a #1 burner type WR with Cotch underneath. Think of the openings for Cotch and Keller in the middle of the field with Burress stretching the D deep.
Mike Florio is reporting that he likely won't have to go to trial until after February of '10 now. http://www.profootballtalk.com/2009/06/15/burress-case-to-be-continued-until-september/
