This...... I dont know why people think because we say hes not the same, that it means hes terrible. Thats not what anyone means. Hes clearly lost a step and that may have been a result of his injury. Hes getting older it happens, hes still very smart and plays well. Je just cant run with the speedsters like he used to.

I disagree. Peterson has been true shutdown this year. Revis hasn't.

Yeah, hypotheticals are a waste of time. Norman and Peterson have been great on their teams. Revis has been great on his. Hard to truly compare. People drive me nuts though like "Watkins burned Revis. or Hopkins burned Revis!" Duh. They are faster than him. Should be double covered.

    He's different.

Decline is such an ugly word because as a player gets older and the physical skills diminish, oftentimes the mental part gets better.

At some point the two diverge so much that the player is no longer any good, but I don't think Revis is at that point.

He's at the convergence of physical ability and mental acuity.

He's still one of the best in the game. I hope people keep writing that he has declined; motivation. When motivate and in a big game, he's the guy I want. Haven't been this excited about the last quarter of the season since 2010

pointless to compare him to himself (2009 season)..

i'm more comfortable with Revis out there than any other CB...right now in 2015.

With Revis, you have to remember that under Bowles, when a CB has safety coverage over the top (generally cover 2) the CB has free license to try to undercut the routes and get an interception. My guess is that Revis has even more authority to undercut routes than the other CBs (so maybe he can do it when playing cover 1). This results in much more gambling by CBs now than under Rex. Some of what you're seeing and complaining about is Revis gambling and losing where before he wouldn't have gambled.

This has been a big part of the reason Cromartie has played so badly this year because he takes very bad gambles and, if you watch his replays you'll see that he was often anticipating the wrong route and was trying to undercut a route different from what the receiver was running. When you're watching Cromartie and thinking "WTF", that's generally been what's been happening.

On the other hand, this free license of the CBs has resulted in Marcus Williams being pretty awesome. He's very aggressive and takes good gambles. In very limited playing time, he had some tremendous plays.

Yeah. Although I'm no expert, it seems like younger receivers just jam him and try to out-physical him now. It doesn't work all the time because he's so damn good technically. Cro on the other hand is dogshit.

Peterson also got undressed by Julio Jones last season, to the point that his own coach excoriated him after the game because Peterson had talked smack going into the matchup. Receivers have an advantage going into one on one matchups with corners, and even the best corners can look bad if they don't get safety help on certain routes. Revis may not be
what he was a few years ago, but he's still in the conversation for best cornerback in the NFL.

In order for him to get back to being Revis Island you'll have to adjust the scheme and let him do what he does best (play press/man coverage). He hasn't been Revis Island ever since he tore his ACL and not because of the injury but because he wasn't being used that way with the Buccs, the Pats and even now that he's with us again. But he's getting older, that's probably part of it. He doesn't seem as aggressive or hungry anymore, he's not as lean as he used to be. Wish he'd lose 10-15 pounds and tone up a little. Has he declined? Yeah. But that happened years ago. People make it look like the day before he signed the Jets deal he was still Revis Island and once he signed the deal suddenly he fell apart and got old. He's still my top corner in the league right now. Unless his play falls off this year and next year, unless Norman can put together 2 elite years it'll stay that way. Is Norman having a better season right now? Probably. Is he a better fit with the Panthers than Revis is in Bowles' scheme? Probably. I mean even Charles Tillman looks good there, hell even his backup who has replaced him is performing well. Very Seahawks like. I think a lot of it is scheme related. Revis I think could have performed better in Carolina and vice versa I don't think Norman would have outplayed Revis here in our scheme.

I think he has. He's been beaten a number of times this year and a lot more times where the QB has just missed the wide open receiver.

Darelle's strong suit has never been shutting down speedy little WRs. He's done much better against larger, dominant WRs who use technique as much as speed, because that's exactly how Revis plays too (apples to apples). WRs like Marshall, Megatron, Dez Bryant were shut down on Revis Island on a regular basis. But speedy WRs like Stevie Smith always seemed to own Revis, even back in 2009/10.

Wouldn't really say he shut down Marshall. Marshall never really went off on Revis, but he wasn't shut down hard either. Both constantly went back and forth against each other.

He has declined, I always personally felt that Revis was the greatest CB to ever play this game. Take away Deions return ability which often puts him way over the top when people compare him to other corners and his inability to tackle, Revis was better.

Note I said was, he's lost a step Hopkins got him, A. Robinson got him and I'm almost glad he missed that game against the Giants, it would honestly hurt to see Odell do what he did last week against us because that 6 catch 149 yard performance he had on us was happening with or without Revis.

Saying that he's still a pro bowl player but I believe Josh Norman and Patrick Peterson are playing at a higher level then he is at this point in his career.

I'd still rather have Revis on the field on 3rd or 4th and whatever and the season in the balance.

I'm not a fan of his contract but he's a very good player. I really appreciate smart play and you're never going to find a CB who plays smarter than Revis.

I remember in 2009 when the Jets played Carolina, Revis had more catches that game than Steve Smith.
