I don't think we aren't going to give him a look. In fact, it might also be said that Hill blew them away at minicamp. reports said he was the best player on the field the last couple days... I said it when we let Braylon walk, it seemed like a decision that didn't make any sense. I still want him back, but if they decide against it for whatever reason, it's not like we don't at least have an option as a #2 WR in house. You are also letting your Braylon bias get in the way here. Braylon is not a must have for the team. He would be an exciting bonus piece that I want us to add. But he isn't vital to the team's success.
Frankly though, I wanted Braylon back - so that Jets could use 2nd round pick on defense. Obviously, that wasn't the way Jets brass envisioned.
Competent RT will spell that for the Jets. And Wayne Fucking Hunter is not how you spell competent RT.
You guys are letting the fact that he dominated at rookie minicamp against mostly guys who will not even be in an NFL training camp, much less #2 corners in the NFL. It's awesome Hill dominated at minicamp, and he is an amazing athlete, but he is insanely raw. He is nowhere near ready to be a #2 receiver in the NFL right now. Can he be at the end of TC? I sure hope so, but today he isn't. Thats the appeal of Braylon to me. He is an NFL #2 without question (when healthy of course). He gives Hill a chance to develop, and it is impossible to have too many weapons on the roster.
Its going to be hard to get over Braylon. He was there in the 2 most consecutive successful seasons the Jets had in over 40 years. I wanted him back just because of the good memories, but its over I think.
All this talk about making Braylon our #2 is ridiculous. If he came to theJets hedbe our instant #1. Braylon hill with Holmes in the slot. I actually prefer kerley as our wr over Holmes. Ideally we trade Holmes to the rams for a rt.
So you want to trade Holmes to get another Wayne Hunter? I don't like Holmes much either but that's just stupid trade written all over it.
Hill will of course need time to develop. This is a given IMO. The Jets CAN get BE for cheap. I'd honestly be shocked if the Jets dont offer him a contract.
That Edwards is still a FA and that he hasn't had many visits/interviews/try outs says that he's probably got a bad wheel or lost a step or wants way too much money. Possibly, it's a combination.
He took next to nothing last year with the 49ers and he will take it again if a team decides to risk it on Edwards this year -- the money isn't the issue. Braylon is still hurt, plain and simple, so no one has even looked at him. When he gets to 100% then he will find out if the Jets have confidence in their WR corps or not.
Yep, that's pretty much it. If Hill shows he can fill Braylon's old role on the team, he'll be a lock and we won't even look at Edwards when he's healthy. If Hill shows he still needs to develop a bit before getting significant minutes, we may just bring him back as a temporary fix, but honestly I see Hill starting by week 1.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that the Bengals and Jets have both shown interest in signing free agent WR Braylon Edwards. There’s been some speculation the Jets could end up being an option for Edwards, but it’s interesting to see Cincinnati check in on him. Edward’s 2011 season with the 49ers was pretty bad to say the least. San Francisco wound up deactivating him late into the season, despite needing help at the receiver position. Of the two teams, the Jets seem like the better option considering that the Bengals drafted Mohamed Sanu and Marvin Jones to go with A.J. and B4E should be back in good spirits thanks to this post. I still think it is absolutely the right move to make right now. If Hill shows to be further along in his development, and is prepared to be a #2 from opening day, we can cut him. If not, we already have Braylon in the fold, who will have had most of the offseason to get accustomed to a new offense, and reacquainted with Mark Sanchez. If we have any plans to bring him in at all, we should just do it now.
After thinking about it some more, I really hope Edwards comes back. He will come cheap, is comfortable here with the Jets and Sanchez, can get deep, and is an excellent blocker. If things go well this year and Hill developes and grows under Edwards' tutelage, it's not unrealistic to say we can cut Holmes in 2013 if hes still unhappy and move forward with Edwards, Hill, and Kerley instead.
The problem in not signing Braylon Edwards is the possibility to go into the season with only 1 really experienced WR who happens to be a prima donna. Im ok with Kerley but the rest of the roster is all what ifs. Braylon healthy gives us security we know what he brings to the field on game day. Cahz Schillens is no replacement for Braylon Edwards no way in hell.
Schilens has a leg up because of his past with Lal, but he's easily cuttable with his contract. It's not like his presense precludes us from signing Braylon too.
I would agree with you, except for one variable...Sporano. I could be wrong, but I think his hiring as OC was crappy at best.
