I definitely want Fitz back, but not as a starter until he really earns it and proves that he can make downfield throws. Ideally Petty steps up and claims the job but we'll see what the plan for him is. Personally I think he'll be ready next year. He already looked fine this preseason to be honest. The issue with him was more learning the playbook and understanding the offense.
I'm not a fan of him either he's too much a Patsie's homer. But this one time he did do a good job. The lengths that Palmer puts into preparing for a game is amazing, QB is more than just tossing a ball 70 yards.
NO dont bring him back he is one dimensional >20yrds short route QB. He can run but will keep getting injured. Chase Stafford or Cutler in the off season
What a dumb question. You're damn straight I want this guy back next year. Those 3 runs with his surgically repaired thumb?!? Yeah I want him on this team next year. _
Bring him back only if there's going to be a true QB competition between him, Petty, and someone else they bring in from the outside either via the draft or free agency. We can't go into next season having handed Fitzpatrick the starting job because he hasn't done enough to earn that.
No. He is fucking awful. It would be nice if this team had a QB for the first time since Favre was here...
Too late to make any changes this year, but here is one vote that the jets don't resign Ryan Fitzpatrick for next year. If they do, bank on another average campaign. Nothing against Ryan, but he is not our future, he is a journeyman backup. This year the jets will be lucky to finish 8-8. The jets need a QB who was not discarded by 4 other teams. NEXT summer (not this year) take a hard look at Petty, what the hell do we have to lose??Highly doubtful we are going to playoffs now this year, and if we go with Fitz next year we'll likely be 5-5 this time next year--and 8-8 at the end. Most teams strive for better. Oh, and by the way, draft some OL--Brian Winters and Breno whatever his name is stink, and Brick and Mangold are on the wrong side of 30.
I'd resign him as a solid veteran backup who knows the system and is always ready to play. Go into next year with him as the unquestioned starter? No way.
The only problem is that in this QB deprived league some team might be desperate enough to give him starter money to be a stopgap, which would price us out of the market. I'm not giving him $8 mil to sit on the bench and be a good teammate.
Of course not. That would make sense. I gotta run...time to start a "Revis Ain't No Good Anymore" thread.
Merge thread this dude just DBH'd. To comment though. We signed Fitzpatrick to be exactly what he is a journeyman possible starter/ solid backup. He sucks as a starter but wouldn't be a terrible guy to have around as a backup.
