McClown benefitted by coming available a week before FA with many teams looking for a veteran stopgap so bidding was higher than it normally would be. Even after saying that, he isn't making $6 mill a year. He signed a 3 year/$14 mill contract, but its backloaded. He's making slightly under $4 million this year ($3.9 mill- base & bonus). He will be cut after the year and won't be on the roster anyway to receive the rest of the contract but even if he did he'd be making around $5 million total both years. They will avoid that and cut him.

Even when Fitzpatrick got that notorious, now universally acknowledged as a bad contract extension in Buffalo in 2011 (6 year/$59 mil) it was extremely back loaded and wasn't even close to $11 million per year..... and he was a promising QB in his 20s. Not a 33 year old journeyman. Even then he only made $4.8 million for example in 2012 and they cut him before having to pay him a roster bonus that would've put him up to $9 million.

He's making $3.2 mill this year

3 years 18 mill gets it done IMO, with a roster bonus in that 2nd or 3rd year that brings us to that figure that he may or may not get so they can cut him after 2016 if need be. There isn't going to be a huge demand for him in FA as honestly there aren't really going to be that many teams looking for a new, aged starter in 2016 like there was in years past. Cleveland.... San Fran? that's about it. 3 years 18 mill might even be more than is needed to sign him because he finally has found a good place for himself. They might be able to lock him up with McClown's exact 3 year 14 mill contract

We keep him, unless we can get Stafford in a trade. I don't see getting aging Brees at 20 millon per year being smart. Maybe this is one of those breaks that comes along once every 20 years or so. When is the last time we watched an offense like this. not since the Toon Walker days, or Maynard ,Sauer . If we get Fitz at a good price how can we let him go? Keep him, and draft another QB. In 2 years or so either Petty or some one else will take over.

Drop Geno after the season, that 100%

I didn't like bringing in Farve. That was a mistake.

Brees would also be a mistake.

I wanna say Fitz will get something like 3 year 27 mill from us. 18 guaranteed. 3rd year team option.

That's barring any meltdown over the last 3 weeks.

I Think he's a for sure starter next year for us.. while Bryce sits and learns one more year.. possibly good enough summer can promote him to back up.. making Geno's time here pretty much at it's last days.

Or if Petty isn't ready yet for that we keep Geno as back up next year..

By that 2nd year Bryce should be out there competing and making a strong case for starter.. If he's good to go let em rip and Fitz backs up in case he flops..

IF bryce flops in that 2nd and Fitz has to come in i guess you pick up that option and draft a QB again til we get this shit right for the following season.

Basically after next season keep fitz as our back up as we try to groom Bryce or the next guy.

I'd bring Fitzpatrick back for another year. Then in 2017 have Petty and Smith compete for the job.

Geno Smith is scheduled to be a FA in 2017. I don't think he's a Jet beyond next year unless he gets in some games and shows real promise.

The front office seemed to have liked his progress this past offseason so I don't think they'd be opposed to resigning him but it wouldn't surprise me either way.

I don't put much stock into fluff statements to the press. If they're truly impressed they'll re-sign him.

if they were truly impressed they would've played him. after his injury they could've easily said "he's our starter when he gets healthy" ... like every other starting QB in this league that gets injured.

they trotted out Fitzpatrick with a jacked up hand one week and then a week and a half after surgery. If they were truly impressed with Geno Smith in training camp none of that would've happened.

Geno Smith is unproven he's not a Romo or Luck that would get his job back once he came back from injury. The backup was playing well so it made sense to ride the hot hand. That's really all it was.

    The hot broken hand.

The coaching staff had the perfect opportunity to start Geno for a game or two after Fitz hurt his hand...if they were so inclined.

    They weren't.

    Yup
Because he was healthy enough to play and it wouldn't affect him?

Fitz is the best we have now and the best we will have for the foreseeable future (until Petty is ready) so yea...we re sign him.

Geno is finished in NY and will be in the CFL or Arena League soon. He's a numskull. Immature, stupid. Not a leader of men. Fitz commands respect. Geno is a clown.

The point isn't that Fitz could play hurt, it's that an injured Fitz was a better choice than a healthy Geno.

Yogi said it best..."90% of the game is half mental".
