I don't know, I don't think these guys take this shit half as personally as we do. It's their job, it's our lifetime of being fans.

If he did take it seriously, I imagine he got over it after he stuck it to us at the end of last season and led his team to the playoffs...

I'm all in favor. I always liked Chad even with his shortcomings. A top 5 QB the Jets have ever had. I think he would be a great mentor for Dirty 6 and him being a b/u would definitely lead him into coaching with us I hope.

It was said in the "...other than Joe Willy QB..." thread that Chad loved being a Jet and was a stand up guy for this org. I know the players don't take the team thing as personally as we do, but he was dedicated to this organization and risked further injury by playing with the RC injury in '04 to get us into playoffs among other things he took in stride like sitting and letting Clemens play in '07.

I say bring him back. I'd be proud to have Chad as the #2 QB.

My only reservation is I think his pride will keep him from doing that and he will want another starting job. Although I hope for his sake he doesn't go into a disaster like Oak, Cle, or Wash.

What other veteran QBs would be avail for a #2 spot? I like Garcia but I don't think his WC offense style would fit here...

EDIT: And don't give me the Vinney crap. I am looking for a serious idea to debate about...

He's actually the perfect backup QB. He's a great game manager.

Three... count them - THREE season ending shoulder injuries. The guy can no longer take a hit to his shoulder without it folding like a dixie cup under a 500 lb anvil....

Why would anyone advocate his continuing playing? At this point I would think these injuries will likely give him some kind of life long disability whether it be limited movement, pain, or something.

Hell ya, if god forbid sanchez got hurt, Penny could win his 3rd or fourth comeback player of the year win. Plus, its an even year which means he will stay healthy.

Sure, I'd like to see him as a backup. He already knows so much about the AFC East, he'd have a lot to offer. However, like others have said, he'd require too much salary even in a backup role. So, sadly, it isn't a possibility.

I think Chad would make a great QB coach somewhere and I'd like to see him go into that kind of role after his playing career is over. Sure he's got a noodle arm, but he's the most accurate QB in the league... and arm strength doesn't matter when you're a coach.

I can't believe people still want Chad to be a QB on this team.

    Really?

You do not use an injury prone player as a backup. That's one of the reasons 2005 got destroyed.

No. I would like to see him retire as a Jet though.

Ainge & Oconnell as the backups next year? No thanks. Any injury and the season is over and next year is our year to make a serious run. I actually wouldn't mind seeing Clemens resigned as the backup. My preference is to sign Jason Campbell as the backup. Chad should retire.

    Pennington?

I wasnt a huge fan of Pennington as a starter, but if he is willing to see a role as the 2nd or 3rd stringer...Then why not? Even though this is his 3rd shoulder injury and he probably cant throw the ball over 40 yards, he could still be a great mentor to Sanchez/Ainge/O'Connell. I dont think we will keep 4 qb's but he could still mentor out Qb's.

I really don't know how much left Pennington has in the tank. I would rather we groom Ainge to be Sanchez's backup. Hes much younger, and easily as a better arm then Penny. If Pennington is healthy however, he would be a good mentor for Sanchez and even Ainge.
