Like I said before, the best team doesn't always win the World Series or the Super Bowl. Just have to get hot at the right time. The Phillies were the best team in baseball this year. And now they are home.
http://forums.theganggreen.com/showpost.php?p=334673&postcount=95 Looks like I might get to order another shirt in a few weeks! Cards vs Tigers in the WS again? Carpenter has pitched 2 straight CGS, 18 innings of scoreless baseball. Best pitching staff left in the playoffs, IMO.
I think baseball is different though in the aspect that it is best of 5/7 , therefore these upsets are more rare than compared to NFL. The Phillies are losers in the end, big time losers. They have regressed every single year since they won the World Series, and what's even sadder is that they have had a better team each year. 08< 09 < 10 < 11 If last years team wasn't enough, they added Cliff Lee on top of that team for this years team, yet they regressed further. Complete waste of talent, complete waste of having a shot at a dynasty.
Ryan Howard will go down as being one of the worse contracts in baseball. Although not nearly A-Rod levels. Regardless, fuck Philly.
I don't know, it could be just as bad as the A-Rod contract. Rumors are that he ruptured his Achilles, which means he could be unable to even start serious rehab until next summer. His slugging percentage has dropped every year but one since 2006. He's under contract for 5 more years at an average of $25 million per.
That's what happens when you give a gigantic contract to someone in the 2nd or 3rd arb year. I doubt that shit ever happens again.
in fact, if im not mistaken....he was indeed a super 2. what the fuck were the phillies thinking? and amaro is probly going to win exec of the year again. the guy is an idiot.
It'll be close, but Arod has 6 years left at 30M per. he'll be 42 in the last year of his deal. That contract was idiotic.
Yes, I agree. They were after Philly but right up there with their lineup and starting pitching. The Axe Murderer is a pretty good back-end too. Absolutely. I argued against it at the time. Incredibly terrible contract given his age and the fact that he wasn't even one of the top five first basemen at the time. Phillies are in trouble, because of their mediocre lineup, which will only get worse.
