I laughed when I read this and was going to reply: "So every HC that has a really bad QB should be fired for failing to scheme around it?" But then I though, shit! that's exactly what Rex did in 2009/10.
I think the walk through and team dinner is actually the day/evening before the game. So there was time for DP to go home and then something happened. He may have called his agent at 10pm that night and left a msg....who knows? I'm sure he'd rather call his agent and leave a msg then call Rex at home and try to explain why he won't be showing up for the game the next day. I have no inside information, but there's a possibility he's dealing with some serious mental health or serious family issues that 1) led to his poor performance in pre-season and 2) led to his AWOL from a pre-season game he wasn't playing in. Glass half full: DP straightens out his life, re-focuses his career, and repeats his 4 ints in 6 games. Idzik receives GM of the year award for the DP selection.
I dunno, to me it kind of reads like he was pretty good in 2011, mediocre or worse in 2012 and then very good in 2013. Maybe 2012 was more of the outlier than 2013. This is also a "what have you done for me lately" league and he's done pretty well lately. I guess time will tell. If he has a good year statistically then maybe 2013 is more of the real thing, if he has a bad year statistically maybe 2013 was just a good year for him. I still think he would be the best CB on our team right now so even if he is mediocre he's still a huge improvement over our current roster.
Not for anything but he played the Raiders (2x), Giants, Jaguars, Titans, Texans, Eagles (pre-Foles), Ravens & Redskins. That's 9 games alone accounted for against the bottom tier of quarterback and wide receiver play in the NFL last year while he played in 15 total games and started 13. If you want to get nitpicky about who DRC faced last year he also played the Chiefs and their check down to the running back west coast offense. I also tend to believe if he didn't even start every game yet played in every game that Champ Bailey drew the tougher assignments earlier in the year before possibly turning them over to DRC. Fact is that he got Revis/Sherman/Peterson/Haden money while playing like a guy a couple tiers below.
I don't disagree in the slightest that he would be the best CB on our roster. That still doesn't mean we should have given him the kind of deal the Giants gave him.
