I know you like to repeatedly refer to him as "mediocre" in order to convince people (hell, maybe yourself) that he is just an average CB but I don't think he's as average as you make him out to be, obviously neither do the Giants or even the Jets as we were obviously trying to sign him as well.

He also looked pretty good in the pre-season game against us and would currently hands-down be our starting CB, even over Milliner. He's only 28 so he's got lots of game left in him and from what I can gather he's missed about 4 games (unknown if even due to injury, too lazy to check) over 6 years in the league and I don't think he's had any trouble with the law or suspensions in the past.

I mean a guy that is mediocre would be an upgrade in every conceivable aspect over what we have then 1) what does that say about our group and 2) he would still improve the level of play even if he's not a superstar.

Yeah... I was jealous of the Giants with the way DRC played the other night. Can't deny it.

How did DP play against Giants? I'm looking for the film on him and can't seem to see him in any of the flim.

And every other position looks better than in years past. The football world does not begin and end with the CB position.

i would like to subscribe to this but i fear the worst and think the secondary will be the primary reason we get toasted by several offenses this year. i dont think we have enough horses in the front seven to really mask this. rex and his D are good but not great.

The problem is that Rex places such a high premium on corners in his schemes that we can't get away with what we have on the roster at that position right now.

If rex can't adjust his schemes to work with where the talent is we have the wrong coach.
    And i like rex

If rex is the defensive mastermind he has claimed to be for years than he needs to adjust his scheme to fit the team. Weak corners will require more zone coverage, safetys playing overtop and relying on the front 4 to apply pressure. Luckily for us our safety tandem arrow is pointed straight up and gives us a lot of flexability in the backend of the defense. I think we will be better overall on D this year than last just with improved safety play alone.

He's done it before in limited capacity, the Pats playoff game in 2010 comes to mind. But I've seen enough interviews/pressers with him to know that he simply hates zone coverage.

He does hate zone because he has been spoiled his entire tenure here with premium cb's. I am hoping he realizes he needs to revert to that 2010 playoff pats gameplan for the majority of the year if our d wants to even challenge for a playoff spot.
The real encouraging thing with rex is we know he can have a successful defense without top end corner play. We have seen it in Baltimore for many years. He relied on pressure from the front four and smart instinctive football from his safeties. Hopefully we can mirror some of that success he had in Baltimore to NY this year.

I still wonder in the back of my mind if it was something serious that he is not at liberty to talk about, and as some others have said maybe there was a miscommunication and now we have this mess. The damage control idea is just as plausible but I'd hate to indict and put fingers if there was a legitimate reason for him to miss the game that is on a personal level. Sometimes its hard to admit as a die-hard fan, but life does come before football. The guy could have had a mental breakdown for all we know.

You don't get to cherry pick one year of a 5 year career and one stat to base it all off of...

    http://www.footballoutsiders.com/player/16790/dominique-rodgers-cromartie

That's unfortunately only a three year sample size, but that's all I can find that's offered for free. Check out where he ranks in pretty much every statistical category before this year (or even this year if you're into adjusted stats). 40s, 50s, 60s... 90s.

    That's mediocre, friend.
