Doesn’t Miami rank one of the top defensive teams in most number of blitzes? It will be interesting to see how Zach respond. We can’t dump him now and need to stick with him through 2 years but it will be interesting to see how he responds to blitzes from different angles. One reason I don’t want care for Zach or TL is I prefer a scrambling QB ala Russel Wilson who sees the open field and gets yards. This is where Fields does better than any rookie QBs, He s sees an opening downfield and he will gamble and get big yards or first down.
That 'massive jump' we need to see in yr 2 isn't gonna happen. We need a re-play of 2021 but doing it right this time. Zack needs a complete mulligan on his rookie campaign. Because right now Zack has zero basis from which to spring into his sophomore year. It'd be unfair to expect it.
He won't get dumped but he at least needs to earn the start next pre-season against a vet, any marginal improvement will please everyone b4 seasons end, it's not a lot to ask santa for.
I agree with the metrics you posted that he has to achieve. That said, if he falls short, but not by much I think he earns more time. And that wouldn't preclude them looking to draft his potential replacement after this year. As to drafting a QB like Corral this year, I'm not necessarily against it, but you'd have to use a fairly valuable pick to do so, I think they have a bigger need elsewhere they could use it on.
Well he's not going to get a mulligan. But he has shown some progress despite everything and he needs to really build on that and make that more consistent.
I have man-love for Corral so that clouds my judgement. I just see Dak Prescott 2.0 when I watch him especially when talking intangibles.
I haven't watched him - or any of the QBs - this year, so I'll take your word for it. If he's that good, maybe he's worth the cost, but since I still think Zach is the real deal, I wouldn't pay it.
There are no QB's this year worth a high first round pick. There are probably none worth a first round pick period but one or two will be taken.
If you are not sure what to say, then perhaps don't say anything. By the way, I don't think the word is "idioc." You probably meant the term "idiotic." When you want to personally attack someone, try to get the word right. I could say that you should be familiar with the term "idiotic," but I don't do personal attacks on other posters. We are all jets fans and all entitled to our opinion. In addition , I also am not familiar with your phrase "long wrong." (????) As you mention, I am "not even sure what to say" about that. Finally, you mention "Johnson the GM." You call me "idioc," but last I heard Douglas was the GM. Let's hope your "rookie of the week" does better than 19-42 this week and doesn't one -hop the short passes (twice). Feel free to respond with another personal attack since it apparently makes you happy.
Seriously… I LOVE coming here and talking Jets. I love the debates. I’m totally ok with people having different views. We don’t all need to agree. I love the back and forth. There are several posts though where people come out with shit like “anyone who thinks different is wrong, or an idiot, etc” so arrogant, like they are the be all end all of football knowledge, and anyone who has a different point of view MUST be a moron. unbelievable let’s just talk football…back up your arguments or positions, and have fun with it…doesn’t need to get to calling other people idiots or clueless or whatever else makes you feel better
You’re right…I should’ve checked the facts. Through 9 games, he’s averaging 193 yards per game. To go with 6 TD’s and 11 picks. And his completion % is 56.1%. He’s hit 60% twice…against the Eagles and Titans…he did it against the Pats for a quarter I guess if we want to count that. if you pull out the Patriots game where he only played a part of the game, he’s averaging 211 yards per game. I think my off the cuff guess wasn’t too far off… I think there is also something to be said for piling on yards after the team is down three scores and the other team starts playing soft, but whatever. I think my eye test is pretty spot on though…at least for me, I’ve seen more cause for concern than for optimism. I just want to see a solid game where he doesn’t throw four balls into the dirt or over someone’s head, where he throws for 65% or better…just would like to see a complete game…he’s done these things in stretches but then reverts back to struggles. a lot of this is rookie stuff and that’s ok, but some of the stuff I don’t think is ok even for a rookie…hit the open guys… anyway, we’ll see. He’ll get next year, as he should, and I hope he can play better…
When you're talkin' Jets football... "long wrong" is a perfectly acceptable phrase. i.e. "We've been long wrong finding talented quarterbacks".
Oh, I would bet there will be 4-5 QB's taken In the first round this year by the time the draft train fully arrives. Some interesting prospects will likely rise soon.
It should be 3-5 as it takes that long to learn the position. I believe you are correct he has to show improvement in year two or we will all be worried. It will take 3-5 years to hit his full potential. What we are seeing is a rookie QB learning on the job with deck stacked against him. The philosophy is/was play him right away and let him grow with the team. With this fan base that was probably a mistake. Aaron Rodgers had to change his throwing motion his rookie season and was just good when he finally got the start. Mahomes did not play, Drew Brees they drafted his replacement. Pennington was so bad we got a lot of coach speak before he played. Warner was playing in the Arena league. Let's give the kid a chance before we make idiotic comments like Tom. I am worried about Becton than I am about Zach.
