wow.. what a joke.. I know that there are other markers on the field, but when you are making a break, focusing on catching a football, and getting out of bounds all within a few seconds.. you should be able to rely on the guy standing on the side line to give you at least a decent mark. I mean truthfully, the ball should have been in his left hand .. but even if it was, the +1 yrd that the marker was off by still wouldnt have given us the first down.. we gotta just look forward from here, a big division win next week will make this all go away..
exactly...how the hell do you go out there with the game on the line and not objectively know exactly where you need to get to?
Exactly. We were a day late and a dollar short all night long on 3rd down conversions. The final play only mirrored last night's impotent offense.
For even me to get my head around and look down on the ground is tougher than getting my head around and looking for a giant orange target to run towards. I don't blame keller for going after the guy with the marker and not the orange arrow on the ground. I've never seen them move up. I've seen them move backwards.
Coaching point - all we can hope is that they learn from it and move on. No point in going nuts over the play. It's not like our offense was rip roaring and ready to march it down the field anyhow.
IMO it had nothing to do with knowing where the marker was. It looked like his momentum was taking him out of bounds anyway, not that he went out purposefully. But what the hell do I know.
Honestly..as gifted as Keller is, he made a bonehead play. The Jets..er Shotty..has not figured out a way to use this guy. He's a matchup problem for most safeties and LBs.. and he somehow he's lost in this offense.
My thoughts exactly. It was basically the "perfect" way to end that abortion of a game. Should he have made the first down? Absolutely. How many times have you seen a player lean their body forward as much as possible, fighting the momentum carrying them out of bounds as best as they can, with the ball outstretched to gain every possible inch of field position? That said, it wouldn't have guaranteed a victory by any means. What's done is done, and we didn't deserve to win anyway. Learn and move on.
Previous play where Ray Lewis crushes Keller: Ball in the air After the catch As you can tell, Keller has a good look at the marker guy right when he started to move.
Or the route he ran. He knew it was 4th down. He should have run accordingly. We need to stop looking at excuses and accept the fact that it was our fault. Chances are, even if we made that first down, we still would have lost. Our offense just didn't show up.
Do you see where his head was? He didn't get it around yet. I did the frame by frame shit. When Keller looked to see where the giant orange thing was, it was a half yard short. I can't blame Keller for thinking it was there, because with the split second he has to look, that's all he had to go on. That fucker needs to stand still.
Keller's momentum pushed him OB. Even if the fucker stayed still, Keller could not have made the first down. Its the route he was running.
The chain guy isn't supposed to stay at 10 yards, because that would cause a trip hazard on the sideline. They have markers on the ground. Really no excuse for that one. It wasn't like his momentum carried him out. He should have had the presence to not only get the 1st down, but anothe 4 or 5 yards on that play. He's a good young TE, and he'll learn from this. I bet it never happens again. Not to be negative, but I have my doubts they would have gotten enough to get into fg range at that point anyway.
I think Folk would be lining up for a 58 yarder. So I agree there.... but he's kicked a 53 before, so my bias thinks me may actually make that FG.
