Smith resembles Hill because he's dropped a couple balls this year, both 2nd round, and they are very fast? lol no despite a rough start Smith actually can catch the ball something Hill never learned nor did in college. If it turns out he sucks as a NFL WR it wasn't cause he couldn't catch. Hill had fewer career college receptions than most drafted WR's (especially round 2) had in 7-8 games.
He was the guy I was most happy for in yesterday win. I hope that gamewas just the start of a nice run for him
It's fitting that Smith first TD reception came by way of a difficult post route grab. As I've said several times on this board his ability to get deep gets overrated by this fan base to the same degree as his route running and hands gets underrated.
That's the only profile that I saw or heard that said that. All the others said that he had excellent hands.
Week 3 TNF against the Pats was the worst. The Jets would've won the game if not for that drop if I remember correctly.
I agree the signs of Smith's having turned the corner - let's hope he has - is a candidate for best news coming out of the win over Miami. Let's see if he can sustain it. I don't think it requires an excess of optimism to think he can.
Smith was supposed to be the Jets' answer to OBJ after the Giants stole OBJ right from under us. We need him to turn the corner, desperately.
Smith was a highly one dimensional receiver coming out of osu. How exactly was he the answer to losing out on beckham?
He was? I just thought he was meant to be our deep threat. and stole? how did NYG steal OBJ? by drafting him like 5-6 spots ahead of the Jets?
I'm pretty sure it was week 6 but...shit, that's the same game where we let McCourty run back a TD after our first drive, had Sanchez kick the ball out of the back of the end zone for a safety, the famous Hill drop, and still managed to make it to over time just so that Ninkovich (does this guy even get on the field against other teams? I swear he only makes plays against the Jets) an force a fumble to end the game. FUCK that season.
He isn't one dimensional. At all. Watch his highlights and learn the game of football. the fact is, the Jets NEED an answer to OBJ seeing as we need to solidify ourselves as the team of NY. We can't let OBJ get all the backpages if we plan to compete with them in future years in the NY media market.
Brandon Marshall is the answer to OBJ. Devin Smith is the guy who will run deep patterns for us and take the top off the defense so that Marshall and Decker can work underneath. Those two guys are about as good as you can get in the underneath game and they complement each other very well. All we need to make the passing game explosive is for somebody to force the defense to keep a safety deep and that's what Smith's role is for now.
Aside from him being a good deep threat what has he shown that he can even hold OBJ's jock? He's a very raw talent that good deep ball tracking skills, mediocre route running, and average hands. And what the hell does OBJ have to do with the Jets needing a playmaker? They need these regardless of whether or not the Giants have one. You seem to be awfully worried about a team we play once every 4 years.
