Did this really happen? I know he was drunk in draft night and was saying some pretty dumb things but this actually clears some stuff up.

Yea your list of 4 receivers is a better measure than the 125 top performances of the last ten years. Speed doesn't matter and running backs should all go undrafted. Peace dude I have better things to do on Saturday.

You trashed the pick because of his combine numbers, said you didn't even consider him because of those numbers, then backtracked and said it was a good pick because your friends told you so. Sorry if the truth hurts

Per ESPN draft academy, Smiths trainers clocked him regularly in the 4.3s. When he ran 4.4+ at the combine he was pissed.

Again, instead of debating the fact presented to you, you just pout and run away.

    1) It isnt "my list" of 4 wideouts. It is the NFL's list of all-pro receivers.
    2) I never once said that "speed does not matter". I simply debated that combine 40 times have tangible correlation to onfield/gameday speed.
    3) I've laid out quite extensive reasoning as to why I feel you shouldnt invest highly in runningbacks whether it is salary compensation or draft picks. Please let me know which of those points you disagree with

But hey, I guess its easier to google search and post the first link that agress with you, post a meme when you get called out on the content of it, then throw out hyperbole and run away when all else fails.

Let me know when you want to seriously debate the merits of that study. or when anyone can find out what those top 125 performances where, or what NEP actually calculates/quantifies

    Or a drink.

I'm telling you, he just hears what he wants and believes what gals in line with his opinion. I can tell by the actual research and effort you're putting in that you're looking for a discussion and you aren't gonna find it here unfortunately. I for one appreciate your posts from an informative point of view.

Oh your opinions on running backs are still the drizzling shits ;)

But what you're posting is just more evidence supporting the theory that everybody but the Oakland Raiders figured out a while back. it's unfortunately necessary in this thread.

have to say i was a little underwhelmed by the Smith pick..

i do of course love his ability to stretch the field, and he certainly had a nose for the endzone in college.
    we can certainly use that.

my hesitation is around the following:

    1) my biggest concern, can he run the full route tree, and contribute with tough catches to pick up first downs?

I've seen a reasonable argument that he wasn't asked to do much of that at Ohio St.
but can he? we haven't seen it, so it's a little presumptuous to think it will be no problem to become a complete WR in the NFL.
He has to prove he's not a one trick player.

    2) for a speed guy who can get behind defenders, i don't see enough evidence of being dangerous with the ball in the open field.
is he tough to tackle in space, and shifty enough to make defenders miss?
usually dangerous players in space have some sort of return background, which he doesn't.
that lack of return backround is also a knock, as we really could have used the contributions on punt returns.

i'd like a little more versatility out of a pick that high.
all that said, i'm prepared to be wrong about him, and hope i am. Some things we just haven't seen yet, which makes a lot of our hopes a leap of faith. maybe he is more versatile than what he was asked to do in Ohio St.
i just need to see some of it this camp before i get too excited..

I think Strong was the best WR available at that point but his stock fell because of that wrist injury, DGB has crazy talent but he's so unpolished and he didn't even play in 2014, although of I had my choice I would have gone with DGB just because I think the sky is the limit with him

The sky is the limit and his floor is Stephen Hill with a side of stupidity. Much happier with Smith.

Looks like Smith has heard the DJax comps himself:

I like Strong goin' back to AZS. But if Macc had them close and went with Smith I'm happy considering the makeup of the team. If it's a tie or close maybe need trumps at that point in rd. 2. He very well may have had Smith as BPA WR at that point anyway tho

I think Smith is gonna work out for us provided our QB can spread the ball around. I'm thinkin' Smith is gonna eat up second tier CB's and Nickel/Dime guys at some point

This covers it all and brings in comparisons to other players to boot. I'm borrowing this from the OP from another thread so it's not missed here.
It goes way beyond the typical pros and cons scouting reports we see in the media, and some 40 times. My impression of the track guy playing football is changed. This guy is an athlete playing football and has all kinds of savvy to his game. He's not small either. I see him putting on some muscle and up to 205 easy by 2016

I trashed it cuz I wanted Harold who has better potential as pure pass rusher I believe. I said I was fine with the pick after reading about him and watching some tape. How is that backtracking, more like I was being honest. Thanks for your input here tho, you can send your application for my fan club to president moproblems.

Who isn't a fan of laughing at the expense of others? No application needed. All you need to do is be logical and you're in the club.
