Saleh was supposed to bring culture and inspired play plus a good defense. He brings a good defense when you pour 1/3 of the team's resources into the DL, but the culture we were supposed to see is what we are seeing in Detroit. And that team's performance looks like a bizarro-opposite version of what we have on game day.

But the real question is, was Davante's speech written by a real person or by AI? Jets leading the league in WWF gimmicks designed to continuously grift the customer. No need to change things when they keep working.

I think it’s more of an indictment on ulbrich , and how the team feels about losing saleh as hc. That what concerns me , anyway. I know they weren’t lighting it up with saleh, but if firing him took the last bit of wind out of the sails , then we’re really f——

This SOB is lucky to have Ben Johnson. I am thinking they go back to shit once Ben leaves.

If you take Campbell and subtract Ben Johnson you 100% end up with Robert Saleh.

There is totally an alternative reality out there imo where Saleh gets teamed with a great OC like BJ, a lot of those depressing post L pressers become victory lap W ones, and all Saleh's tiring cheerleader BS gets written in as top shelf level coaching by the mainstream media.

I viewed it more as a likely favor to Rodgers. While potentially trying to get ahead of the incoming criticism that is going to gradually materialize when it becomes more apparent that we didn't just simply give up a 3rd round pick to bring him in. Those 2 massive $38m cap hits we are now on the hook for for his age 33 and 34 seasons can start looking really ugly and stupid really fast if/when things keep going further south.

Anybody that claims they want to be "all in" and don't care about the future ramifications stuff like that can have is always just lying to themselves.

IIRC, Ben Johnson was just a hold over from the previous regime too.

he did bring a culture...soft, unemotional play, poor menatl awareness as in situtional FB, no idenity and most LOSING.

They have talent but are not a team. When you have the newest guy chase down the guy at the 1 and no other Jet play player is there ....whats that tell you. This is a collection of individuals who mimic their former coaches attitide and demeanor... they do not even hold themselves accountable. What a effin mess... brick got thrown into....

Noooo no no. I lova ya man but you’re way off here. Dan Campbell is an ex player. Dan Campbell has a far deeper understanding of the game, and his players will straight up run through a wall for him.

Mixed feelings about the Adams spiel. I like the fire he brings and his personal need to not let what he sees as complacency go unaddressed. On the other hand, is anyone surprised that the coaching staff has allowed such an attitude to become the team's MO?

But I also wonder if the first game in town is the time to be voicing such opinions when it might be better to address his own failures in a game where only three of his nine targets were caught. Yeah, it's early in his reunion with Rodgers so let's see what they put together against the Pats who are down in the mid twenties in pass defense rankings.

I'm with Borat on that. I think things get ugly again there when Ben leaves to HC elsewhere.

Or maybe Campbell has had a lot bigger influence on turning Johnson into a good coordinator than you’re giving him any credit for?

If history is any guide we will beat NE and win the next 4 to be 6-5 and have real hope before being crushed at home by, of all people, Geno Smith in a game where Rodgers gets knocked out for the season.

You are giving Dan way too much credit. Ben had top 5 offense in his 1st year as a coordinator. It's not like he was Campbell's protégé for a while and Dan developed him. Heck, Campbell never even called plays himself. I am sorry, but this just doesn't add up.

Dan does deserve credit that after he found a bad OC in Lynn when he started, he immediately fired him and recognized the talent of a guy already in front of his face (Ben was a passing coordinator and with Detroit for many years). But once that talent leaves, he is going to have to look for a talent again, and will need a lot of luck finding someone as good. It's not that easy to do on the offensive side.

Which is why I want someone like Ben to be our HC. Then we know we will have a good offensive mind that cannot just leave. Much easier to find a good DC.

They’ve also had the best offensive line in the league for like 3 straight years and a good QB filled with an offense of weapons. Even when Johnson took over they had two good backs, and Amon-Ra in his second year.

I don’t really care what people say about Goff either, he’s never been a bad QB outside of his rookie year.

I don’t get how now we have people crediting the turnaround of a franchise that hasn’t won a playoff game since 1991 with solely the offensive coordinators doing.

Never understood the initial contempt for Campbell and still don’t get it now.

I personally like a coach who can call plays or has called plays. To me it comes down to Xs and Os. Even though other qualities are also important, but all else being equal, someone who has succeeded as a play designer and caller I feel has the best grasp of the intricacies of the game. Previously I felt it did not make a difference if it is a DC or OC, but now I strongly feel a successful OC who called and designed plays plus has other qualities to be the HC has the best chance to succeed.

Doesn't mean Campbell sucks, but I do think without Ben the team will drastically regress. I like Goff too, but he was never considered a top QB. Heck, he was traded along with two 1st round picks for Stafford, and Rams immediately won the SB. McVey, who is very reputable, benched him in keys games before. He is good, not great. Ben Johnson has top 5 offense for 3d year now, ever since he started, without a great QB. Campbell is very lucky to have stumbled onto this Detroit guy, who was there before he came in, and while he is not the only reason, he is a very big reason for turning things around in Detroit. I would be very happy to have him as a HC here.
