whats really going on here seems pretty fascinating, in a morbid way... rich athletes get away with alot... for sure... and that aint right but.... ? who knows?
My conspiracy theory is Watson's original trade request wasn't just because the Texans are dysfunctional: it was also because he wanted to get out of the state of Texas since he knew what was coming his way.
It also seems obvious that a lot of his issues were self imposed. There's that wild rabbit hole story of Watson's mom forcing Hopkins out of town because he was bringing around too many hoes. And it seems like the Texans/McNair may have actually used their influence to try to keep Watson out of trouble for as long as possible. And he repays them by forcing his way out of it and trying to stir up things about the organization being racist and trashing Bill O'Brien and such. He's a deranged guy if any of the allegations are true. Money talks though for any athlete that's good enough to perform and didn't murder anyone. Big Ben wasn't necessarily a serial molester like Watson was but it's pretty obvious he raped that girl (wasn't there another allegation?) and walked away with a Hall of Fame career. Same with Jameis Winston and Florida State putting the gag order on that girl who he assaulted. She was pretty vocal about it. So sad.
If #metoo had happened in 2003 instead of 2015 Ben Roethlisberger would never have been drafted nor played in the NFL. I have no idea what is going to happen with DeShaun Watson but if the allegations turn out to be true his path ahead is very rocky. Women spend a lot of money on the NFL and that is not a market the NFL can afford to blow off.
Now yeah, but I think he was hoping he'd get out before anyone accused him, and by being out, women would be less likely to come forward.
Right now this is a wilderness of mirrors, however when the grand jury makes it's call a lot of those mirrors will be smashed and some light will shine through. Sol Wachtler's famous line about grand juries is that a good prosecutor can get them to indict a ham sandwich. I'm guessing that Watson faces one or more counts of felony activity before this is over.
The irony, of course, being that Judge Wachtler years later was himself indicted for extortion, racketeering and blackmail. Sparing the mustard, he took a guilty plea and spent a little over a year in federal prison.
I don't know why I read Judge Wapner from 'The People's Court', hahaha. EDIT: Autocorrect. Infuriating.
Does anyone remember former Jet Abram Elam? His backstory is terrible/horrific, but I'm fairly convinced he did something not so very good.
