I hope he said you can have the #23 and 2 other future #1's but you ain't getting my huge #2 trade down chip, ever.

We were excited because we figured we could use them to build around Sam. Then he went out and regressed to the point where he doesn't even look like a backup QB. Follow?

I was just excited to get two 1sts + for a loud-mouthed trouble making safety and giving us the opportunity to draft some players in the lower 1st round and start rebuilding this pitiful squad

0.0% chance we could get Watson without the 2nd overall pick going out. Unless Watson REALLY plays hardball with the NTC but it doesn’t seem like that’s going to be the case.

You're probably right. BUT you're also assuming we'll be competing with other teams with high picks, aka the Fins. BUT...if Miami drops out for any reason, then the Jets with Sam Darnold and multiple 1st round picks (not the #2) may be far and away the best offer the Texans get.

No doubt but my post was 'I hope he said' considering the voicemail wasn't reality my own post wasn't either :)

In all honesty that #2 is worth so much that I would be loathe to give them to much more on top.

#2 and another, maybe a 3rd on top if it sealed the deal.

#2 and 3 more 1's is a no from me and I want Watson here tbh

I would have to think hard about the #2 and two more 1's on top as well tbh.

Again it is all dependent on what we could get from the #2 in a trade down, look at what we traded to move up for Sam

I couldn't see us making a deal without two firsts even if we gave up the #2: Probably our #2 plus the Seahawks pick next year, and I'm thinking a 2nd, plus Darnold.

I would like Watson, but I just think the price is going to be too steep. The Texans aren't budging on anything: They aren't trying to repair their relationship with Watson and they aren't willing to trade him for anything except a king's ransom. They'd rather lose with Watson sitting out than trade him; fucking with Watson seems to be their biggest priority right now. They're a seriously fucked up organization; they make the Johnsons look like competent owners by comparison.

Also, if this was Aaron Rogers or Drew Brees in their prime, yeah, I'd say do whatever it takes. But as good as Watson is, I don't think he is quite there yet to be worth what the Texans want for him.

The bold is really flawed reasoning. Rodgers wasn't the Rodgers in the third year of his career that he is now, nor was Brees, but look what they developed into. This is the time to get him so we can benefit from his great play and further development and success.

McClain speaks for the team as we know. Take Q out of this deal and it’s a friggen homerun. If that’s what it takes then Joe D better sign the damn papers immediately.

agreed...people need to also understand that all 1st round picks aren’t created equally....in fact some aren’t even comparable at all.

The Jets 2 overall has massive value and with the potential for a franchise QB at that pick it’s worth infinitely more than what other teams can offer alone

That guy is suggesting our #2 (worth 2 1sts) plus our other 1st round pick this year, our #1 and #2 next year (which will be fairly high), Darnold (worth a 2nd) and Quinnen Williams (possibly worth 2 1sts).
    That's roughly 6 1sts and 2 2nds in value.
Absolutely terrible trade for the Jets.
We'd end up a worse team than Houston.

As you mentioned, the #2 alone is worth a couple 1sts, as we can trade that pick into several more very valuable picks.

I'd offer nothing more than the #2, plus another 1st. That's it.
If Houston wants more, I hope it's not us that gives it to them.

if he didn’t have a no trade clause there would be about 20 teams lining up to make an offer bigger than that.

If he was serious about the no trade clause, he wouldn't want the Jets.
But he wants out, so all teams are in play imo, and I don't see 20 suitors capable of stepping up at that price.
No other team has the #2 either.

If a team does want to blow a massive amount of draft capital though, then let them.
Maybe Houston can use their new found picks to trade up to #2 with us.

The Texans are smoking crack at this point.

They'll be lucky to get a top 10 pick for Watson when they finally trade him, likely in 2022.

Their strategy apparently is to keep leaking huge trade proposals on the off-chance that some idiot takes them up on one of them.

If this carries over to 2022, with Watson holding out all of 2021, Houston will have lost a lot of trade leverage.

Houston can bluster all they want, but trading him early this offseason is probably their best bet on return value.
But when does Houston do anything smart?

I think Watson plays for them this year and barring a sudden reversal in the team's fortunes gets traded next year, likely to a team with a top 10 pick as the main part of the deal. I think it is quite likely that it is a face-saving deal at that point with Houston potentially doing some other flops of picks to offset Watson's suddenly onerous contract.

This is a situation where neither player nor team stands to particularly benefit from the impasse. I think if Watson had to do this over again he'd have been a lot quieter at the start because every noise he makes right now drives his value down more both from the Texans perspective and also from the perspective of potential trade suitors.

There has to be this thought in the back of most other executives minds at this point that maybe getting Watson would carry the potential risk of refocusing his ire on them in a year or two.

Whatever else you think about player's rights and freedoms this is the NFL not the NBA and players do not drive the conversation in this league the way they do in some others.

Even taking Q out of the deal means it's still too much. I'd pass, and I would be surprised if JD gave up that much.

I would do that in a second if Q wasn't in it. Every other option is a huge question mark, Watson is the sole sure thing.

Yup. That would be an absolute home run deal.

If it ever came out that JD passed up on that offer, I’d want him gone.
