The Jets have a lot of other draft picks and a lot of cap space to sign free agents. I would bet money that you will see other improvements to the offensive line and wide receiver corps. We may also see improvements to the tight ends and running backs. If the Jets trade Darnold, you can add another 2nd round or late 1st pick to that draft haul. I think Douglas is on the same page as you.
In addition to this, Sam actually had his worst year as a pro the year following the draft where we finally got help for him early. Becton and Mims were taken in the first 2 rounds and Sam regressed hugely. There's no logical case for thinking Sam will ever be good enough. It's all hopes and wishful thinking.
Come on, Joe D! Why can't you move up Free Agency and the NFL Draft? Time is ticking. What is your problem? Get it together, man! @Brook! needs a new Jets QB ASAP! Hurry up!
I think Sam has tremendous talent and drive and was put into a terrible position on the Jets. He came into the league with weaknesses that he needed to fix, but that never happened. My guess is his problems are mostly psychological and a new team and sitting on the bench for a season will really help. The Jets can't afford to put Sam on the bench and they can't afford his contract when they have the opportunity to start fresh with another college superstar on a cheap rookie contract who also has the potential to become a top FQB. I REALLY like Sam, but the situation is such that he will probably be traded and in any case, I will wish him tremendous success.
Actually when the OL which was almost entirely new jelled and Mims wasn't hurt Sam Actually started to win games against Rams and Browns I'm not sold on this draft class outside of Trevor being anything better then what Jets have at QB now. Wilson had shoulder injury similar to Chad Pennington and played in a weak division lesser talent also besides Steve Young what QB has that school churned out. Fields struggle against elite college defense. MacJones looks like the only competent prospect but lacks mobility.
It’s the most important position in sports. If you don’t have one you have a 10% chance with an all world D. It’s much more reliable to have a QB.
This QB class outside of Trevor is overhyped dont see any of these QBs being upgrade over Sam. JD could trade this pick for a boatload of draft picks moving back to 8 still the Jets get chase or Pitts giving Darnold a real weapon a ol at #23 plus with additional picks at 2nd round gets the Jets a great RB and even a pass rusher or CB not to mentioning 3 first round picks the next year could rebound this team think unless Trevor is there at 2 you trade back none these QBs are a #2 pick.
The Browns lost their top 4 WR's due to covid a day before they played us. Sam averaged less than 200 yards on 60% completion and 1.5 TD's per game those games. The team won despite him, not because of him.
We have enough draft picks and free agent money to surround a qb with talent. You have the second pick in the draft, we need a qb. Has Sam shown flashes he could be a good qb. Yes, So has Mitch in Chicago, Geno in Jacksonville. Drew in Denver. , all of these guys have better stats than Sam and their teams want to move on. You draft a qb at 2 ,if you want keep Sam. Sam becomes a superstar, you can always trade our potential qb for a 1st next yr. If Sam fails you have a stud qb waiting in the wings. If JD is half the GM we hope he is he should be able to build a hell of a team w/o the 2nd pick. I personally think if JD believed in Sam he would not have given him so little talent this past yr and tanked for Lawrence.
At this point , I even believe Darnold wants outa NY...which means a second or third rnd pick added to JDs Arsenal of picks Correct me if I am wrong ...where has Joe D drafted badly???? I don't hear any real bitching and moaning over who he has drafted so far ...just unlucky that Mims for example got hurt..Now we have a HC who knows how to deploy players Best option get Watson...if not the GM will sit on his picks and get some good players>>>>a win win
Then why were we all excited when JD traded Jamal for 2 1sts? There was all kinds of threads here on how JD just got us some serious draft cap which will be essential to assemble a power house (not just another 8-8 team). But now you're saying JD never even needed those Jamal picks to build a dynasty because he can do it without them. Well this figures. I was giving JD applause for getting us those critical team building picks and it turns out we never even needed them! Shows me what I know.
