Do you seriously see no difference between direct and indirect relations? Regardless, Is Manziel throwing up gang signs and writing like a crip?

I suppose there are people who "lost touch" but I think most of the media guys know exactly what they are saying and writing, and are very careful to word things to make them sound far more dramatic or factual than the situation is in reality. Basically, the NFL is is some of the only real reality TV in the world, but on reality TV the editors mix conversations and clips to make situations look and sound dramatic, because that is what dumb people like/want to believe. In the NFL, the players get paid to play really well, and the editor's job is done by the media. The media twists quotes and situations on a daily basis, and makes claims that they know can't be directly disputed by a player because of the hush-hush style of NFL teams. They do so because they know people will read articles or watch clips with over dramatic headlines or claims.

Desean Jackson and Eric Decker were both top 5 in catching 20 or more yard passes. Jackson was 3rd, and Decker 5th. Geno Smith was actually pretty good in throwing the deep pass last season. I'd love this offense if we acquired D-Jax. I wouldn't even mind still going WR in the 1st round (especially if it was BPA), lol. Cooks and ASJ in the 1st and 2nd rounds.

Well flipping between Francesa and Stephen A Smith today was like night and day. Stephen A basically kept it "real" and discussed it how it is, and basically everything ive been saying, that association with a gang member is not some sort of crime. And that if you grew up in some of the environments that these guys did, you really dont have a choice.

Its embarrassing when Francesa gets pissed about this but had no problem with the Giants signing John Jerry who was in the Incognito report like 100 times, he didnt make a big deal about David Diehl smashing into 3 cars on the sidewalks on a Sunday morning drunk as hell, and then of course he played down the accusations against Eli Manning, basically saying "I told you guys I dont like memorabilia sale to begin with,......"

Desean brings in something the Jets have not had in a while, a home run hitter. With him on the field, you are always just one play away from a TD which would be nice considering recently, when the Jets fall behind 14 points or so, it feels like we are down 35.

Mark Osborne reports the Jets are unlikely to sign DeSean Jackson.

But one team source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, told Metro New York that Jackson "is a long shot to land here." While the three-time Pro Bowler would add an instant playmaker to their wide receiver corps, Jackson may not be seen as a good fit with the team. "He isn’t a ‘John Idzik guy’ – not what fits here right now" the source said, referring to the Jets’ general manager who has been restrained this offseason.

Jets should scoop him up, just so he doesn't end up on the Pats. Plus he'd make our offense a legitimate threat. We could give him more guaranteed money with a lower contract.

The media personalities will never be consistent, if they were the reporting would be too boring for the average fan. Actually I don't believe that, but what I do believe is that the people have already made their choice. I believe that fans would actually understand the NFL a lot better if there was more quality in the media, but with all the glorification and vilification done by sports media a lot of people don't even really know anything about the players they claim to love or hate, or the franchise for that matter. On the other side, if people preferred quality reporting over drama filled BS, ESPN, NFLN, and the local back pages wouldn't be the most popular sources for sports media. Those networks have done such a good job convincing people they are super high tech and on the cutting edge of info with all of their futuristic sets, and while it's true the NFL itself is on the cutting edge the elaborate sets are so unnecessary. People like pomp and flash, and choose them over sources like PFF, and then say the media are assholes. After enough of the same crap it just seems really obvious what's BS and what's not.

Honestly with the way this offseason has gone it's probably best for us if the reports are saying that we won't sign Desean Jackson. Odds are whatever the reports are the opposite will happen.

Reports also say the Cheifs really want to sign him and they only have 4.5 million in cap space and we have 27 million ,Andy Reid was the one who drafted him so if we want him Idzik better get him in the building for a visit

I've been thinking about it some and I think the odds are the Eagles cut him in response to the story by NJ.com.

Here's the argument in a nutshell:

    1. The story was published at 12:05.
    2. Jackson was cut at 12:40, 35 minutes after the story hit the web.
    3. In a follow-up story NJ.com says that the Eagles likely cut Jackson in response to their story.
    4. If the Eagles planted the story to give cover for their cut that is a *big* story with as much juice in it as the cut. It would have leaked.

I think the Eagles decided the chances of trading Jackson after the story was published had become close to zero and they then followed up on the organizational plan to cut Jackson if they could not trade him. I think they did this to try to get out ahead of the wave of negative publicity around the story and make it somebody else's problem.

Case in point, there may be some things that we as fans don't know about the Eagles or DJax, and we should not be too expectant about the Jets signing him. However, assuming DJax is definitely a legitimate gang member because of the over dramatized article released today is totally ridiculous for the reasons mentioned by a few people in this thread already. Most specifically, growing up black and relatively poor in the LA area through the 80's and 90's (and even now) is a plenty difficult task, and as strange as it may seem to some who have never been exposed to such things, some people had a better chance of surviving their teen years as a member of a gang than as someone with no affiliation. I don't claim to know Jackson's story by any means, but neither do any of you nor do the media. Perhaps he joined the crips for protection growing up, perhaps he was able to be held above some of it because of his football future, but I guarantee those he knew and loved joined up because they had no option, people who perhaps stuck up for him to keep him and his promising future out of it. Perhaps Jackson feels like he somehow owes the Crips something, for not dragging him in and stealing his football future. Perhaps he just wants to appear tough by hanging out with those guys, but perhaps he feels if he stops associating with them he is abandoning people who helped him become the multi-millionaire he is today. All of this is conjecture, but there are numerous reasons for Jackson to hang out with who he hangs out with. As I said before, it takes a numbskull to flash a gang sign on national TV so even if he is "good hearted" or whatever, he's still a head case.

Who cares if he's in gangs. New England Already set the bar.sign him to a multiple-year deal and If he murders someone you cut him right away citing principles and the media will portray you as honorable.

    It's win win either way

I've read the story. Twice. Nothing but vague associations. If you think I'm missing something, what is in this story that anyone can find incriminating or even particularly interesting?

Jackson will get signed by some team, the questions now are "who?" and "how much?" Let's forget about which team will make the deal and what the term of the contract will be for now. What's the over/under on the annual pop. I'm in at $7.8 million.
