If by "a ton of catches" you meant 2....and if by "Rex always thinks because someone had a good game against him" you meant "had his lowest yardage total of the year." Then yes, you're not 100% wrong.
Ya, except I'm pretty sure most of their money is already tied up in players for 2012, Tanny could figure something out though, we'll see.
Burress never had Moss-like speed or the ability to really just burn people. After his time off I can't imagine him being any faster
Man, Jeremy Kerley is one old fucking rookie. By the end of the season, if not the start, Kerley will be our primary slot receiver. There's a chance that we start off 3 wide sets with Mason and Plax split wide and Holmes in the slot, but I think Kerley comes along pretty quickly.
Plax money + free'd up Cotch money + exemptions (if he doesn't use all three mill this offseason) could buy a solid #2 next offseason, I would think.
as will Harris'.....and potentially Cro's (although his could be significantly smaller, as well) But that's my point, as to why we need to free up cap space to replace Plax next season.
You can thank Cromartie...or Harris...or Holmes. They were all signed with money that had to be cleared off next year's cap by Cotchery. Would you rather win and field a competitive team for years to come or have impeccable loyalty?
Could be Mason is an insurance policy for Cothery. Maybe Rex will keep both on the roster through preseason, and then decide who stays and who goes. IF Coth is truly healthy AND he is back to his old form AND he agrees to re-write his contract (something like $6M over 4 yrs) THEN Rex may keep the younger Coth for long term continuity as the #3 receiver. Otherwise, goodby Coth, Hello Mason?
Ignore Plax's money. He was put on a one year deal BECAUSE of the cap next season. His replacement will likely come from the draft and, as Mr. E and WW85 were discussing, next year's draft looks to have some very strong depth at WR.
I don't know why you're talking to me though, I was saying we're not going to have a lot of space to sign people next year with the increasing contracts we signed people to.
No offense, but calling him Cothery makes him sound gay for some reason. It's like taking out the C gives him a lisp.
Yep. AA much as we love Cotch, he HAS to go this season.....we also probably want to hold off restructuring Sanchez till next year, and in all likelihood save all 3 million in exemptions as well. If Tanny plans things right this year, he can make things much more comfortable for us cap wise, in 2012. Then by 2013, the new TV deal should save us, by jacking the cap up massively.
Here's an interesting take from Matt Waldman of the Rookie Scouting Portfolio, a really cool site. He talks about Floyd to Baltimore; Mason to NYJ. My Take: I don’t know about Floyd “needing” to be a Raven. Sounds like panicky thinking to me if that happens. Seriously is it just me, or does the Ravens possibly going from Derrick Mason to Malcolm Floyd feeling like settling? Whereas Mason made Joe Flacco look good I think Phillip Rivers made Malcolm Floyd look more desirable as a potential starter than he is. And if Mason can make Joe Flacco look like a QB on the verge of actually becoming a franchise-caliber starter, then a Mason-Santonio Holmes pairing could help Mark Sanchez accelerate his game. Oh yeah, there’s this Burress guy, too. Mason might be the slot-No.3 receiver in concept, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he makes Burress the specialist.
Yeah, I'm hoping he has low escalators in the Cromartie and Holmes deals and shuffles money onto those later caps. Salaries are likely to jump in 2013 anyway. Next year's the tough one, but I think he has us set up pretty well as long as they draft well.
