It may be hard, but just imagine if you will...things working out.

Just try and envision Plax gliding down field, not exactly burning someone but going to a good spot at a good speed, and then jumping and catching the ball with the defender right in front of him.

Imagine then, if you will Holmes getting major YAC after a succesful slant from Sanchez, I mean Mark can still throw the ball without those guys on the team, cant he?

Imagine, our run first oriented offense, running the ball well and softening everone up for these guys, they can still run the ball cant they? Our O line can still block...cant they?

This is a football team not pass and catch, jesus christ we are gonna be alright.

No he doesn't, he is 37 years old and there will be a ton of receivers cut between now and opening day.

I read on twitter that Sanchez tried to convince him to take the cut and stay with the Jets, He didn't want to. Odds are he will end up with the Chargers.

Aside from being a replacement for Cotch, I'm thinking Mason is going to be around so that they don't have to use Plax as much during the beginning of the season. I'm sure they are afraid of him getting hurt either by natural causes or by him not taking monster hits that he's not used to anymore.

It was primarily comments he made to the press. For example, in 2006, when Mark Clayton ended up with more either more touches or more yardage than Mason, and right before the playoffs began, Mason complained to the press that he was not getting enough passes. Pretty poor timing for that sort of thing -- right before the playoffs, IMO. And there were similar complaints like that made along the way, but nothing like TO or some of the real prima donnas. He's a straight shooter, and when the press asks him a question, he says what's on his mind.

And sometimes he'd do something typically un-veteranlike when he'd get pissed. Like throwing the ball away after a bad ref call, and we'd get hit with a 15 yard penalty. But hey...he'll fit right in with Hot Sauce Bart Scott. (that time Scott threw the ref's flag into the stands in a game against the Pats is still a classic.)

Then last year, he literally grabbed his QB by the face mask on the sideline and started a fight that several players had to break up. It never became clear exactly what the fight was about, but he was clearly upset at something that Flacco had or had not done. Now maybe some people think that that's just something that happens in the heat of the moment. I've been watching football for a long time, and I never saw anything like that.

But for the most part, Mason is a great guy, he helped out a lot in the community, and he played through a lot of tough injuries along the way. If I were to rate him, I'd rate him as a very solid player who's going to make any team he's on better. He's still got some of the best moves in the NFL, so that helps to compensate for the fact that he's not a speedster. Getting separation has been a problem for him, and in the Ravens anemic offense, if/when he didn't get open, the play was pretty much over. But part of the problem there is that he was being used as a #1 WR, when he really should have been used as a #2WR. There were also questions about whether or not he came back to help his QB when plays broke down, because in the vast majority of broken plays when Joe was scrambling out of the pocket that was collapsing around him, no one, including Mason, ever seemed to be open. But it's hard to say why that happened. All in all, Mason is a winner, and he will be missed in Baltimore.

    Great insight RavensFan.

On a side note, who really is the number one in Balt. now? Boldin? Teams will more than likely stack the box to stop Rice now....

I really hope we didnt pull a NJ Nets and get rid of a guy in HOPES that someone would sign here. That being said, there are FA's that aren't being talked about at all that could help instantly.

Thanks. And Boldin is definitely the #1 WR now. But there are lots of questions as to who the new #2 will be. The press has Malcolm Floyd from the Bolts coming to the Ravens, so then he would clearly be the #2 WR. The entire landscape of the Ravens offense has changed, with both Mason and Todd Heap gone. They racked up the most catches, along with Ray Rice.

Again Cotchery ASKED for his release or trade. And Rex said he could see it coming for quite some time. I didn't understand it at first either, till I read about Cotchery being the one initiating the move. I thought the Jets fucked up, but it appears that either way Cotch was leaving.

    just saying

Yea I know but I would hope we'd get the replacement BEFORE cutting our own player...feel me? Not disagreeing with you.I'm just saying the move seemed like putting the cart before the horse a little.

Well...it's being reported that Floyd re-signed with the Bolts, so that might make the whole Mason picture a little more murky. It's being reported in Baltimore papers that the Jets, Ravens, & Titans are all talking with Mason.
