...so now we have Holmes, Burress, Kerley, and Turner. Terrible depth at the position. Absolutely terrible. I'm not against the trade, I just want to see another wideout brought in.
Depends how you look at it. If you view it as the Jets bringing Mason in as insurance in case Kerley wasn't good enough to step up to being the #3 receiver, and now that he has shown he is we're trading him back out for not much less than we gave for Kerley (Houston will make the postseason so the conditional will probably be at least a 6th, and we drafted Kerley in the 5th), then it looks like a pretty smart piece of business.
I'm excited about this move. Instead of an aging vet who would almost surely be gone at the end of the year getting all the reps, we'll now have our promising rookie getting a chance to develop chemistry with Sanchez at the #3 spot for the rest of the season. If Mason had been tearing it up maybe this would've been disappointing, but Kerley had a better game Sunday than Mason did in the first 4. Not only that, but it's very refreshing to see the Jets picking up extra picks instead of trading them away for a change.
I reckon it's just Houston going for it, they might not have another window of Manningless opportunity in their division for another three years and need to make sure they cover every base even if Johnson's only out for a couple of weeks.
Don't expect too much for Mason. We'd be lucky to get a 7th rd pick. Conditional picks are kept under wraps till April. It's possible if Mason doesn't hit certain criteria, we get jack shit.
He just overdosed on prescription drugs. I don't think he's much of an option at this point, less Houston would have signed him.
At this rate, I wouldn't mind Houshmanzadeh for depth. Deep down, I didn't like the Mason signing when it first happened, so this is no big deal for me.
I think the Texans are desperate enough to give us a fifth or a sixth rounder. They're ridiculous thin at WR behind Andre Johnson. If his injury is worse than previously thought, then Tannenbaum may have pulled something off.
