Before Favre tore his tricep we were 8-3 and took out the Patriots. We were the team to beat. It’s unfortunate he got injured but we were definitely a SB contender with Favre, possibly even a favorite. There’s no reason that Rodgers wouldn’t do the same, and while he’s trying to do that we can look to the next couple drafts to find our future. David Carr is a nice QB, and while he’s much better than anything we’ve had I do believe he’s going to use the market to get a top contract in both years and dollars that will be well above his actual value. If he’s here for 6 years then we’re saying he’s our answer to Mahomes/Burrow/Allen/Lawrence/Herbert. Do you really believe he is because I sure don’t. I believe Carr is gonna want 6 years and I think he’s gonna get it. I read early on he was looking for a long term contract with a team that believes in him. I also do not believe Rodgers will cost a 1st rounder. He’s gonna cost a ton of money for 2 years but GB doesn’t have a lot of leverage now to be trying for high/multiple picks. Rodgers can take this team as it is right now and make it a SB contender. Care doesn’t do that.

Eh I mean you can throw 2008 out altogether with Favre in terms of results and he still came here with his own agenda to leave as soon as possible.

Rodgers doesn’t have that agenda that we know of, but at the time when we got Favre, there wasn’t an option like Carr out there.

I don’t know how you can say Carr doesn’t create a window. We just watched this story with Stafford even though for whatever reason you think Carr 8 years in was wildly different than Stafford. He went to the Rams and won.

There’s usually ways out of contracts say four years in. Commit to Carr for 3 and structure year 4 and 5 so you have an out. You trade for Rodgers and it’s a complete wild card as to if he’ll be here in 2024.

I kind of find it funny that when the name Carr or AR come up, many give us the narrative….”well, they won’t come cheap”
No kidding Sherlock’s, good QBs that can significantly improve the winning record of your team consistently don’t come cheap. It’s whatever the going market demands and this year there are few options and a boat load of suitors. For that matter JG nor T will come cheap either, just not quite as expensive. Plus last year pathetic QB contracts have added more fuel to the fire.

The big trade off IMO, is QB performance value versus not just $$$$, but more importantly draft picks. That is a precious commodity that makes the team better for any QB. How much more can AR do with less talent. This team, unlike the Rams when they got MS, has many more needs that need fixing, with OL at the top.
I keep going back and forth but deep down inside I would gladly pay $40M a year for Carr and getting a stud G/T in the draft, with zero drama, than getting AR at a higher salary, no first rounder this year plus potentially future picks.

If the FO/CS believes what is reported and they do not sign him then it will constitute a failure, IMHO. Rogers maybe better, but we do not need the annual distraction and for GOD sake please do not give up any draft picks...

Who knows…but honestly I do t think Rodgers would cost THAT much in picks…I get that GB has all the rights but he’s older, he’s contemplating retirement every year….I just don’t see us having to give up the 13th pick on a guy who may retire next offseason…I’d think it’s more like a third this year and conditional picks after that depending on if we make playoffs and how far we advance and if he p,Amy’s next year etc

Something like that…maybe it’s a second rounder this year…who knows

just my conjecture but if they don’t want to trade him to the nfc, that cuts options…and there’s just so much uncertainty with him…

Fair and they might only have to give up a second for example. But he’s very volatile in terms of his longer term commitment to being here.

Good way to put it is this. And I’ll concede that Rodgers is obviously a much better player.

Do we think we have a better SB window with Rodgers next year or Carr at some point over the next four years?

The stats you provided definitely prove your case in regards to the comparison to Stafford. It actually surprised me because when I watch them play there’s just something I’ve always felt Atafford has that I don’t see in Carr. The Lions would never have considered moving on from Stafford until it came to the point that they were giving him his opportunity to go finally win one. Raiders are dumping Carr in his prime, and for all intents and purposes I don’t blame them. They’re going for Rodgers most likely, because they feel they can win now. Process that for a moment- the Raiders cut the guy they could have just kept so they can give up picks and pay Rodgers to come turn them around. So why do want Carr again? Listen if the latest rumor of Carr signing for 2 years is true then I have no issue with it, though I’d rather Rodgers. But if I have to sit through Carr for 4-6 years that just depresses me.

If the Raiders think they can win it all with Rodgers they are out of their minds.

Vilma, I respect you and your opinion but I don't buy this narrative that I've been hearing quite a bit.

The perception I have of AR is that he believes he is the smartest guy in the room. The NY media will only make him dig into that position. I actually welcome him to come in and clown the likes of Cimini and these other simps who want nothing more for the team to suck because it's the easiest and laziest storyline to write.
