I watch him (unfortunetly I live in Ohio) every sunday. He plays up enough to be someone to manage a game. He plays only a little better then the best backups in this league. He is probably going to be the type of player that needs a lot of offensive talent around him to succeed. I may be wrong ..but I see a QB who went from a QBR of over 90 in the first 8 games to a QBR of barely over 73 in the last 8 games, against very bad defenses. I also saw a QB that played poorly in the biggest game of the season for the Browns, and that probably cost them the playoffs. He had 4-5? INT's that game. I also saw a QB who couldn't get started in the 1st quarter the entire season. He had a 56 QBR in the 1st quarter. That is good if you like to start games from behind every Sunday. Which would negate any chances of running the ball late in the game. He also was unable to complete 60% of his passes in more than just a handful of games. This prevents long, sustained drives which also helps the defense. His stats are only good because of 3 games. Against really bad teams. 11 TDs to 2 INT's against Miami, St.Louis and Cinci game 1, which left 18 TD's and 17 INT's for the rest of the 13 games. Not to mention this is all with a really good O-line, run game, and way better weapons on offense then most teams they played. His numbers turned out good but they are deceiving. I would much rather stick it out with KC then with DA. I have no real clue if KC will make it, but we are not giving up a 1st and 3rd to find out either. Just our hair.
Derek Anderson is very similar to Vinny Testaverde. He makes more good decisions than bad ones, but he's not a heavy duty difference maker. He's not particularly accurate although he has very large, possession oriented receivers, and that's something to worry about. If I were the Browns, I would attempt to get maximum value for him. It's a quarterback light league right now, and aside from Ryan, few of these prospects are really NFL ready. If no one's willing to bite, I'd attempt to make one more run with the guys in place. The Browns benefited from dysfunctional franchises in Baltimore and Cincy this year and a very soft schedule. They're not as good as they look, and with that in mind the "making one more run" option isn't as appealing. Anderson posted an 82.5 QB rating against a rather weak schedule. Two games against Baltimore(20th vs the pass), 2 against Cincinnati(26th vs the pass), and games against Saint Louis(21), Seattle(19), Arizona(28) and Houston(25), Buffalo(22) and San Francisco(29). If you drafted Brady Quinn 1 overall you have to believe that with a year of observation he could come close to 82.5 QB rating. You're on the hook to pay him millions of dollars anyway. You also have to look at that schedule and question how good Anderson really is. Were any of you who attended the Jets- Browns game terribly impressed? I wasn't. If someone offers you a number one pick in the bottom half of the first round for this guy or a package of picks that includes a first rounder and you're the Browns, you'd better take it. I would more than likely sell high on this guy. -X-
