I don’t for a moment think that this CS is narrow minded to the point not to play Mims moving forward if he shines tomorrow. I’m hoping he gets sufficient targets and catches to make his case in front of the big Jet crowd. I also hope Wilson is on point, aided by a strong running game. If my memory serves me right, Mims is not a bad blocker and could help open some holes.
I hope that Mims has a breakout game, catching 7-10 passes for 150+ yards and 2-3 TDs, forcing Saleh and LaFleur to play him from now on.
Hoorah for Mims! Oh course we all know a ball must be thrown to him before Golden Boy is lying on his back or running for his life
Regardless if he doesn’t get many reps or passes thrown, the kid got to show he belongs, first with the attitude, determination and make the best of it if the opportunity he gets. Baby steps. I think we’ll see more action.
It would show the depth of the WR position, but we pretty much know that already, or at least thought we did before the season started. It could show how the CS can coach up the bench, but not necessarily. Mims showed last season that he could play and that he belonged. It could just show the stubbornness and arrogance of LaFleur.
I am as frustrated as anybody here that last year's 2nd round pick is being handled this way, but at the same time I trust this coaching staff are going to line up the best players on the roster to give themselves the best chance of winning and thus, increasing their own job security. From a logical standpoint it makes no sense if DM is lighting up practices, running the correct routes, catching everything, etc to sit him. I truly feel there must be an issue, maybe multiple ones, that have caused Salah and his staff to limit him thus far. Could be a lack of focus during practice, late to meetings, his prep/conditioning, overall attitude, drops, etc - I have no idea if any of these things are true and do not claim to know. I think him not knowing all 3 WR routes is Salah's way of protecting him from the media, but at the same time sending DM a message that right now something in his performance is not meeting the team's expectations. Actually it shows good leadership from Salah to bench him and take the heat for it. Salah could easily throw the kid under the bus and point out publicly what the problem(s) are with DM. I hope this is the team's way of showing tough love to a kid that certainly has the talent to excel in this league...
LaFleur could see Mims as not an ideal fit, and thus have dismissed him or think they have to change him to make him effective and worth playing. I'm calling BS on that. I don't trust either any further than I could throw them. I liked both initially and trusted them, but they have destroyed that trust with their words and actions. Now they're going to have to re-earn and rebuild that trust before I'll trust anything they say or do again. How is saying that he doesn't know the offense or all three WRs positions protecting him? That makes him look lazy and/or stupid or have a learning disability. It also makes them look stupid and absurd for expecting a 6'3" WR who excels as a deep threat and with contested catches to learn the slot WR position. Mims' skills don't fit the slot WR position at all. It was a total waste of his time to learn the slot WR position. This whole issue could have been avoided if they didn't have the ridiculous requirement that Mims learn the slot WR position, and even if he was struggling to learn the offense (for whatever reason), they could have given him a package of plays that he did know and make use of his talents.
It's amazing how desperation will change the coaches tune. It's about fucking time. Get Mims some good looks.
It’s not desperation, 2 wrs are in concussion protocol. Just like week 1 it takes 2 receivers being out to get mims active. He’s still coming to the game as wr5 . I don’t think he’s getting more than 15 snaps
How is not desperation? Moore and Smith are out. That only leaves Davis, Berrios, Crowder and Mims, and Crowder is doubtful. Crowder is solely a slot WR, and Berrios may be too. Thus, there are only totally 3 healthy WRs. How does that make Mims #5, and again how is that not desperation?
Because it’s the succession, it’s why they are carrying 7 wrs, succession isn’t desperation, it’s just the order. Desperation would be signing guys off the street to play Sunday. And I haven’t seen crowder listed as doubtful. Saleh has stated he’s trending towards playing.
Crowder is officially questionable on the last injury report, but he's barely being discussed now so I would assume the implication would be that he plays.
At this point who cares who are our receivers ? How about a completed pass? LMAO Let's push the envelope and get a couple of first downs?? Sometimes these discussions are like a bad joke
I think everyone might be overblowing this a bit too much. He was active week 1 and saw almost no time. Being active is one thing, being on the field is another. I would not be shocked at all if he sees less than 5 snaps.
Crowder ain’t gonna play hurt. They slashed his salary in half so he will play when he’s good and ready. If he’s not 100%, even if he’s 80 or 90%, he won’t play Mims should get some of Davis’ reps since he can’t catch anything. He won’t though
