Not only does the data show he was more productive but it shows he played outside in general far more often than in the slot
Panthers traded for Shenault which means they were either never in on Mims or we stupidly set the price too high. Or they just preferred a better receiver.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/food-poisoning/symptoms-causes/syc-20356230 Sickness caused by food poisoning generally lasts from a few hours to several days. So a few days is the high end of the normal duration. I've had it twice and that was my experience each time too. Do we have any reason to believe Mims' case was especially severe? I'm not doubting he lost 20 pounds, food poisoning dehydrates the hell out of you. It was water weight though, which you regain within a day or two after recovering. People act like he lost 20 pounds of actual body tissue - that's not how catabolism works. Edit: It was reported he missed two weeks, my mistake there. I still don't think it fully explains the lack of production and being in the doghouse though.
I don’t argue that point at all. I agree with you there. I’m not blaming the team, however, from all accounts he was very good in practices. But fans can’t have it both ways, they keep pointing out that his production was meaningless because it was against third stringers yet he never got a chance to play with the starters. What is he supposed to do? I find it a bit strange too that if the leadership was unhappy and trying hard to move him, they would have used a window or two with the number 1 offense to show case him. I suspect they see more value than what many think.
Recall last year, when we had Davis dropping balls all over the place, and then getting injured. If this happens again, we will need a big WR. Big capable TEs are nice, but this is not a substitute for a wide out with large catch radius. Last year we went to Mims, but he stunk. This year it is likely we will need to go to 5th receiver again, and Mims might end up doing much better and maybe even taking Davis' spot permanently. I am not completely sold on Davis just yet. But between him and Mims it gives us a better chance to have big sized WR weapon for years to come.
Good point about keeping Mimms as Davis insurance. Davis could get injured again. Both have problems creating separation from press man coverage which will hopefully improve as Moore becomes the focal point of the offense and Garrett develops. The big negative I see to Mimms taking over for Davis is this is a precise timing offense. The QB needs to depend on the WR being where he is supposed to be. I don’t know if Mimms can be that guy in this offense. Only the CS knows how much progress he has made and how dependable he is.
You have the develop players if you want to be a great franchise. The CS has to figure it out with Mims. If I'm JD – Mims aint going nowhere for years to come. There is too much superstar potential with him if he develops properly. This is where coaching comes in.
Well Denzel needs to show what he did on Sunday during the regular season in a limited role and earn back his status.
Okay bickety. Take a week off my friend. And if you decide to come back, please try treating people the way you want to be treated.
