    Right.

    It was also Mangini's fault.

Quite the contrary. If they win, the spotlight will be magnified even more on how they got to the Super Bowl and the cheating talk will dial up even more. The media will not glorify a team with the cloud of suspicion that they have hovering over them. The vitriole will be at an all time high if they somehow win.

If they lose, the spotlight may dim a little because they didn't take the ultimate prize and most unbiased spectators of the Pats will be happy by this result.

Is 11 of 12 balls enough circumstantial evidence for Goodell to drop the hammer or does he need the smoking gun?

I agree, but the report is saying 2 psi difference. That's a lot compared to the allowable weight. Why was it so obvious to a guy making a random interception as opposed to people handling the balls all game? And how could they handle both teams balls all game and not notice the difference?

Boomer and Carton are doing a semi-scientific experiment tomorrow (well, Boomer is sick so some guy from Entourage is sitting in) where they'll be taking 2 balls with the pressure tester and comparing them.

I'll let you know what they say :D

PSI is pressure, not weight. The weight difference would be imperceptible, especially with the balls being wet. It's noticeable when you're squeezing the ball to grip it for throwing, catching or running with it.

To me, the biggest benefit would be on the receiving side as a softer ball has more give & less bounce when it hits the receiver's hands.

I know this is hard to believe but maybe, just maybe, the referees made a mistake by not realizing it during game play. I know they never miss any calls or anything during games so it's hard to comprehend.

Once they were made aware though they were switching balls out numerous times in the second half of that game

Great post. And how many INTs did we see from the Seattle game where the wet ball bounced off receivers' hands due to poor grip.. NE did a good, cheating job making sure that didn't happen to them.

Why would it be hard to believe? There is the human element with officiating inn every sport. But on every single play? I'm not so quick to dismiss the officials as being suspect as well.

Pressure, I stand corrected. Still a noticeable difference for those handling the ball every play.

I wonder if they keep one to give to the referees for inspection?
