Obviously, if there IS a cream-of-the crop pass rushing talent available at that spot, you must go with him. As Parcells once said, you can never have enough good pass rushers. If at all, a serviceable 3-4 DEs can be found even in 4th round (i.e. Aaron Smith) so it's not like Jets must go hellbent on finding that DE to make the defense work. So in that regard, I agree with you; Jets are good enough of a team to go with BPA, and if there is a pass rushing talent you can grab at that point, then there is no reason not to go with him.

I don't know about that one - it remains to be seen. If, somehow, top-tier talent of 3-4 DE and 3-4 pass rusher become available, who do you go with?

My logic here was that, double-team eating DLs would make any LBs a lot better. (Except Pace and Thomas - they are slow as snails) I would like to think that, being able to create that fire zone almost at will makes any LB worth his salt very fearsome.

Again... I agree; BPA before the positional needs. If there is one available for pass rushers while there is not much available in DE, why stretch?

Of course that would be a joy to behold. Know that I am not against that idea; I just happen to think that we can do well without drafting a pass rusher "this year" - especially if we can shore up the DL with two promising, fresh DEs. In other words, if Jets do go with OLBs, I wouldn't be against it.

And this is my hunch, but if Jets DO get a proven pass rusher (out of draft or through trade), that would mean the end of both Thomas AND Pace.

    ----------------------------------------------------------------

    So, to sum it up:

    1. If there is a good pass rushing talent available, Jets should go after him. I just didn't think it was realistic option (partly because I am not really good at college prospects?)
    2. DL needs some fresh blood. I just thought this was more realistic choice than #1 - hence the logic. If there IS a pass rushing threat we could grab, then the whole logic goes out.

Cam Heyward needs elbow surgery and will prob be sidelined for up to 3 months... sad for him but happy for us... maybe he'll drop at #32 now.

PS If we're touching Moch with anything before our 4th rd pick I'm going to kill someone... a smaller, faster Vernon? No thanks!

Moch has some experince at LB, and is much more a speed rusher than pure bull rusher, they are completely different players. Vern over powered pople at the NCAA, Moch will use a Swim, 360 spin, or pure speed to beat people.

If we end up going DE in round one, a player like Moch would be a gift at the end of round three. I hope we are that lucky on draft day.

I think he means it in the sense they are genetic freaks, but one trick ponies.

And I don't know where you've seen or heard him swim or spin, he has little to no passrushing moves, your link even says it. 98% of his moves consist of using his pure speed to get outside a tackle, if it doesn't work, he gets easily absorbed into a block...

This... but what the hell.... I was against the JPP pick by the Giants last year as well so what do I know :).

PS Now that the "Defensive end" thread has become a thread about OLBs can I turn the OLBs one into a DE thread?

Just from the Nevada games I've watched, I' ve seen him pull both off. Maybe he does not use them as much because he's not forced to due to his speed, or maybe he's not confident in them. Whatever the reason, you can teach hand technique, you can teach moves, you can't teach a great first step or flat out speed, Moch has both.

Getting abosrbed could be a problem, but Its something he could work out of. Again, this would be a third round project. We are not about to get better pure rushing OLB at that point. We may get a more well rounded one, but not a more dangerous one off the edge.
