My top pick for OC, but it probably won't happen is Norv Turner. Not only is a proven offensive mind, but if we decide to move on from Bowles he can easily be given the head coaching position.
Yeah but who exactly is hiring their replacements? Impossible to tell where this franchise is heading when we know nothing about woody's brother, how much power he'll actually have, or if those reports are even true. Like it or not our best bet is for mac and Bowles to keep progressing and leading.
OC, yes, HC no. He's an awful HC. He has failed not once, not twice, but three times as HC. I think OC is as high up the ladder as he's capable of going.
This is the 2nd or 3rd time I've seen Woody's brother mentioned. Did Woody officially get the ambassador job or is this just a rumor? If so, will his brother be running the team?
I know we are all Jets fans here, but really shouldn't we be more worried about the future of relations with the UK?
That's true, but I don't rule out firing Bowles mid season if we are out of the playoff picture by Halloween next season. As an interim HC, he would fit, and if he does a good job, he may be considered. But to be honest, he has no reason to come here, and there are plenty of other teams that don't have the pressure of a must win season looming over their heads. I am very concerned with the fact that Bowles and Macc are in career years and have to produce or else they'll get canned. No legitimate OC will look at this situation as one that provides stability IMO.
I guess I'm just conditioned to worry anytime Woody Johnson's name is mentioned. I worry about the decision he makes. I worry about the kind of person who would actually choose Woody Johnson to perform any task. I wouldn't let him wash my car....
and the Jets win 4 games next year, still fire the coach, and we get no shot at the guy. clean house now. prepare to lose next year. that is the way to go. we have some young players who have to learn how to play football. anpother year of misdirection will not help
WIth regards to your last sentence, you could very well be right. I agree that it would probably take a former HC who was itching for the opportunity to get another shot at being a HC. Then again, maybe a young up and coming OC who desires to become a HC, might look at it as a golden opportunity. New York is the biggest stage in the NFL. We know how abysmal the offense was this year. That young OC comes here develops Petty, Hack or the QB the Jets draft (if they draft one), and builds a very good offense in one year, and he would be on everyone's radar. Even if there was little stability here and Bowles was fired at the end of the year, he'd probably have zero problems finding another OC job, and quite possibly would even have several teams competing for him.
That is true. Someone is going to have to love Hackenberg's portential because we may very well be rolling into next season with Petty and Hackenberg as two of the 3 QB's on the roster. I would absolutely love if we got Tyrod Taylor from Buffalo cause I think we could win with him. Also, if Norv Turner, or McCoy love Hackenberg's potential then they may want to come here. We also have a lot of wide receivers that can prosper. Decker will be back next year, Marshall still under contract but I think he may traded. Robby Anderson, Enunwa, I think we have enough to win with on offense, we need to find someone who will want to invest heavily in developing Hackenberg and Petty assuming we don't get a slash QB.
McCoy might want to come here to get another quick shot at being a HC and because if he builds an offense here quickly, he probably would get another shot pretty quickly, if not with the Jets, then somewhere else. With Decker, our young WRs, Powell, Forte, and ASJ (who has shown some potential), we have some pieces in place with our offense. If the OL can get fixed, a TE added via FA and/or the draft, and another RB, I think the potential could be there for a very good offense, if that OC and his QB Coach can develop Petty or Hack. Of course, if Bowles and Woody run true to form, they'll probably hire Hackett or some first-time OC.
That's my thinking as well. Our offense has a lot of nice pieces and we are picking 6th in the draft as well. We may very well be in the position to add some very good offensive talent as well. So, maybe an OC could see the talent and know that he can do well enough with it. If the defense fails it would automatically allow the OC to become interim HC assuming Bowles gets canned mid season.
oh i think 2 of those chaps will be retained (revis and richardson). and don't u know that the jets NEED dysfunction. LOL
going out on a small limb here.......me thinks harbaugh is the jets coach in 2018. posted 1/4/2017. LOL
That's certainly true and firing mid-season is certainly not a sign of a well run organization, so it would be perfect here. I propose a pool. I'm taking October 16.
Let's not get carried away. While I would prefer the coach be replaced immediately I certainly wish him no bodily harm.
