Quibble Different emphasis. The Colts will pay a lot for a few really good people in critical positions such as defensive ends, the QB and receivers. The Patriots want their entire lines strong, and want second stringers capable of stepping in and playing without much drop of in quality. Thus, the Colts do very well early in the season before any of their superstars get hurt, while the Patriots usually survive the injury bug much better than star based teams. But to do this, you have to let high ego players that seek the big contracts. You have to let Ty Laws and Assante Samuels walk away. You can't let a few big name people eat up the salary cap. Very few teams have the fiscal discipline to emulate this.
Not with all the injuries the Colts had this year, I don't think there is much of a debate. Where do the Colts have better personnel?
I think you're probably right. I see the Jets playing this game similar to the Colts but they will need to get more points out of the offense. Hold the Pats to mid to high twenties and score more than that. Probably not gonna hold the Pats to one TD.
This was almost a decent post then you had to get douchey at the end. Cro will hold his own just fine.
I think the Jets can take a lot from the Colts win and use it against the Patriots too but I think (or perhaps hope) that the Patriots will be a more difficult test.
He didn't hold his own the last game, they went after him, especially when he was covering Branch. I'm not trying to be a douche or anything, and I'm not trying to come on this board and say that Cromartie is a bad corner or anything, he isn't. But I think you are really putting the blinders on if you can't see he has some pretty obvious flaws in his game. For all his size, speed, and athleticism he struggles with quick receivers, has poor footwork, and his a subpar tackler. Players like Branch and Welker expose these flaws as well as anyone in the NFL. It's also not helping his cause that he has to cover them for so long because the Jets have such a poor pass rush.
bolded quote is somewhat amusing. the last time we got pressure on brady was week 2 of last season. haven't gotten squat for pressure since and now you think rex will magically have the pass rush return. fact is, after having all last season to study the jets defense, teams this year have defended the jets blitz far better to the point the jets weakness defensively has now become a toothless pass rush. the key to beating the pats this game will be if the jets can ground & pound the pats defensive line. other than wilfork, the defensive line is nothing but replacements for all the guys on IR. keep the ball out of brady's hands and control the clock. this doesn't allow brady to get in a rythm which will cause some three and outs which will be the key to a jets victory!
he actually said the way it is. nothing douche about the post at all. branch and welker are slash types. cro's strong point is closing speed which doesn't help when you have brady hitting the slashers at point of the slash. the 45-3 game they ate cro alive when ever they wanted to for the most part.
I agree w/ placing Cro on either of the 2 TE'S depending on the situation(Hernandez on 3rd and long/ Gronkowski on short yardage and the red zone)But I think you put Revis on Welker. Branch is a big part of what they do...but at his best he's only gonna hurt you on extended drives and in the red zone. Welker is the pats bread and butter, especially on third down. If you erase him from the equation, you can force some 3 and out's.
Exactly. We need to score, period. And 17 points won't cut it. Sanchez will either make that happen or he won't. He can't have the inaccuracies and heebie-jeebies he had in the 1st half against the Colts. The Colts don't have a terrific defense and we nmade them look like SB caliber. You won't prevent Brady from scoring. You can only HOPE to limit him to FG attempts. So in the end, it's on Sanchez. He has to play an almost perfect game and convert on 3rd downs. Score more than 17 points. It's as simple a concept as "I lift things up and I put them down."
I could agree with the Addai better than BDJE argument. The main difference is that the Pats O-Line is much better and the Pats receivers are solid down field blockers. Law Firm just puts his head down and runs with no dancing. This makes his style perfect for the way that the Pats play. Works really well for Woddhead as well. Pats run game is much better even if the Colts have the more "talented" backs.
Kyle Wilson took Gronkowski in the second half in week 2 and did a pretty good job as I remember. Maybe it will work out again.
For some reason I remember Hernandez being the only Patriots receiver in the game to give the Jets trouble in the 2nd half.
