All of the WR's right now are money-focused to an extreme. We need to draft a WR and get it right. Paying for somebody else's WR isn't going to make the Jets better. It's just going to make our #1 WR more expensive. What exactly are the motivations of somebody who takes a Jets mega-contract? Think about it.
I'm no cap expert, but is it true to say that SF's cap problems are just temporary simply because Garoppolo exits the roster after 2022? Sure, Garoppolo's $27M cap hit goes away. But to make room for that contract over the last couple of years, SF played games with other contracts by pushing the cap hit into future years (like 2023). Trent Williams' cap hit this year is $14M, but next year it jumps to over $26M. Armstead jumps from $9.5M to $24M. Kittle jumps from $7.7M to $18.3M. Those three players alone will hit their cap by $37M more in 2023 than 2022, which wipes out the Garoppolo savings and hits the cap for another $10M beyond that. And that doesn't include whatever extra money they want to pay Deebo and Bosa. Even without Deebo and Bosa, they have five players that will collectively hit the cap for $84M. Those five go up to $110M in 2024. Again, that's without extensions for Deebo and Bosa. SF is living on cap space credit cards. Every team does that to some degree, but SF has pushed it to a high level, and eventually you gotta pay. I'm skeptical that they can afford to extend both Deebo and Bosa without crippling the rest of their roster for years to come. Trading one of them for a high draft pick would go a long ways toward deleting some credit card debt while getting a cheap top-tier rookie to start filling in the gap. I'm not saying they'll trade, but they may be limited in what they can offer him, which may explain the "OHHHH OKAYYY THEN" tweet on April 6, after which he deleted all the 49 references from his social media. SF is having to make hard choices today because they tried to make easy choices over the last couple years. Do you trade Bosa to make cap space for Deebo in the coming years? Do you trade Deebo and keep Bosa? No good answers. Except maybe for the Jets.
It seems pretty clear which is the more impactful player: https://www.fantasypros.com/nfl/stats/aj-brown-deebo-samuel.php
Thats unfair, Brown had his single worst season and Samuel had his single best. Last year was an outlier for both players I like em both, I dont think 1 is significantly better than the other
MetLife Stadium is closer to New York City than Levi Stadium is to San Francisco. They may as well be the San Jose 49ers.
I fear you have misunderstood. Conversational flow (paraphrased for easiness) CC Wow, Brown AND Deebo, be still my beating heart. Brook, I do not want Brown but yes to Deebo don't grill me. Me, You want BBQ'd Also Me, I want both. My post wasn't comparing them or saying either was better than the other But I ask you, you wouldn't take AJ Brown if he was available?
I don't think Deebo is getting traded, and if he is, I don't think the jets should bite. Good grief, we ALREADY have TWO small receivers in Berrios and Moore, why add a third one?. Combine this with a fairly short QB in Wilson and good luck. A better fit would be a POSSESSION receiver, in the Al Toon mold who can move the chains. I keep hearing the jets will take a WR at 10, and IMO that sucks. The jets need defense, damn it--throw a dart at the map--edge, LB, run stuffing DT, safety, CB , you name it. Currently, I think the jets have the weakest LB corps in the NFL, AND Mosely is likely gone after this year.
Signing one of these super expensive WRs like JD seems hellbent on doing feels like a bit of a cop out for not being able to draft a good one. It's a short sighted move that relates to feeling like this is a make or break year job-security wise. Deebo and AJ are amazing players but is it better for the team to have one of them at $25 million per year or a drafted WR who produces 75% as much at $5 million per year? It's a no brainer which one is better for the team. You sign a guy like Deebo or AJ when you're already a stacked team and are 1-2 players away from seriously contending for a Super Bowl win.
Same with Tyreek Hill, do we really want to pay a WR so much money after they just demanded to leave their former teams? It just reminds me too much of Jamal Adams. I like Deebo Samuel and AJ Brown, but it seems risky to me. Much better to just draft a WR at #10. Joe Douglas wants a sure thing veteran WR for Wilson though, so I can't blame him for that.
Give up 35, 38 and 69. Pay the kid the money and lets get an actual offense on the field. Offer up the same deal they tried for Tyreek. This is a no brainer
I'm in the camp of getting a WR from the draft who fits the offense we're running and roll with the current group.
Lot of speculation on Twitter right now that Deebo didn’t appreciate how he was used by SF(referenced the additional wear and tear of being a RB/WR hybrid). Deebo, Elijah, CD, Braxton, Uzomah, Conklin and MC at the skill positions??? Sign me right up.
I get it. Especially if he has a good relationship with LaFleur and Saleh. The Jets run the same offense here though. Wouldn't they want to use him in a similar way that the 49ers did? Especially if you trade so much for him.
