I hate when people say Revis got us Sheldon Richardson. Revis got us Dee Milliner+a 3rd round pick. Don't get me wrong, we absolutely needed to trade Revis (oh man, imagine if we got that 2014 1st we were looking for now!) and I'm happy with the deal, but if we resigned Revis, we take Sheldon at #9, not Dee.
I forgot we almost got that. Wow. You never know how things would have changed if the Buccs kept their 2013 first round pick, but still.
In an ideal world yes it would be great to see Dee getting reps, but he isn't because of whatever it is thats going on with him and his post surgery rehabilitation. I would imagine he will play this year at the latter stages of the season, maybe cameo roles at first, I'm guessing like everyone else. I would prefer him to see games once hes 100% fit, nothing else as there is zero point this season
Since the Jets could clearly use help in the secondary if one felt they might make a run this year, I assume you are implying that you don't see that happening. You might well be right, but I just wanted to clarify that.
The huge IF ...we were to make a run, it might be a possibility, but we now have Idzek as GM and he seems to spout nothing but good footballing common sense, so 99.9 no I don't see it happening. TBH if Miliner came into the seconadary 100% fit, I don't think he would make that much of a difference and if anything could have a negative effect down the line.
If we never traded Revis we still most likely take someone else at 9 than Sheldon Richardson. We wouldn't have drafted Dee yea but theres no guarantee that we draft Richardson 4 spots higher.
millner was bpa, there is nothing to sughgest he would not have been the pock regardless of revis. if sheldon was rated that much higher than he would have been the pick. it they were drafting by need geno would not have made it to the 2nd round
soh_vet, I don't know from what vantage point you saw him but having saw Milliner up close for nearly a week during training camp at Cortlandt (litterally standing 3-5 feet from him at times) I can assure you that he's more stout that Deshawn Jackson. I posted some "notes from Cortland" threads (early Aug.) and remember making mention of Milliner's build as a bit of a cross between Revis and Cromartie, i.e. a little more of a rangy build than Revis but not as much as Cro. During coverage drills and 7-on-7's, Dee (because of his shoulder rehab) limited his "tackling" to tapping the receiver on the shoulder pads. Overall, a good-sized athlete, definitely 6 feet (I'm 6' 2") and in the 195-200 lb. range. While at Cortland, I noticed Ellis Lankster having added a little muscle this year - and he was laying some wood. And lastly, on one play I saw the since released Zach Rogers beat Dee Milliner on a fly pattern up the sideline that Mark just missed hitting him with. Size will not be an issue and at Alabama, tackling was definitely not a problem for Dee Milliner. He missed camp with that pulled calf which set him back. I think his problem is upstairs, that he needs to recognize checking off coverages quickly (when the offense shows you one thing and then changes it up). It reflects in his tentativeness (recall Rex not happy with Milliner playing off his man so much and giving him a cushion). I think time and reps should eventually take care of things.
@DarrylSlater Rex Ryan said he is "absolutely" confident that Dee Milliner will be able to play this week.
The Patriots don't exactly have a ton of talent at the receiver position. I hope Milliner can do well and get his confidence up.
In this system the problem is absolutely learning the calls. Playing CB in a Rex Ryan system is HARD. Some don't understand that point but trying to cover one on one in this age of NFL is ridiculously hard...millner has the physical abilities I feel.
1. Lay off the kid. It takes a while to get used to playing CB in NFL. Revis wasn't the world beater that he is in his rookie campaign. 2. Jets need at LEAST 3-4 more strong draft like they had last season. Their depth is piss poor AND some spots have starters missing. In short, Jets franchise is running on empty now. It is amazing they can do as well as they can even with that empty cupboard. 3. Frankly, I am not against trading Mangold and Ferguson away. They deserve to go to a contender while in prime. They are both nearing 30 - and will be probably in the range of 32-34 when the rebuilding is done. They don't deserve that. If Jets get picks out of them, and they go to contending franchises, I'd say it's a win-win situation. [I can name quite a few teams that would love to enlist the service of Mangold and Ferguson even as we speak.] Of course, that means THE PRICE HAD BETTER BE RIGHT AS WELL. 4. For the next few drafts, Jets should do really well to hold on to their mid round picks [3-5]. They must draft a DB/OLB/TE/WR every year with them, and they would do really well to go with OL/DL for the last two picks. [You know, for the likes of Big Snacks.]
They said Richardson was top-4 on their BPA list, as was Milliner. You don't know that Milliner was ranked higher than Richardson. I think it's very likely they figured Milliner was more widely known, and that it was a safe bet that Richardson was going to last till 13 with CB needy teams following us (DJ Hayden). If we have a signed Cromartie, Revis, and still have someone like Wilson, I really don't think we take Milliner over Richardson
Weird. It's almost like Rex is sitting on him. He was barely practicing last week. Maybe, its a personal thing, and I am just guessing.
Rex did not like that him and his agent refused the first contract the jets proposed. Thats why he was late for camp but no clue if its personal just saying.
Number 3 - Worst Take Ever. They deserve to play their nuts off because they are paid incredibly well to do so.
I don't understand this type of thinking at all. The guy is still a rookie. Corners don't usually just step into the league and start shutting down receivers. We picked him because we traded Revis and the guy was ranked a top 5 pick before we picked him at 9. It's waaaaaaaay to early to judge it or call it a stupid pick. It's ashame that injuries have hindered his development thus far but give it some time.
