Alright dude, No need for it. Hemi is just making the point that people are making it seem that Favre is the End all Cure all. The fact is that as we all know it takes more than a QB. Let me add that we have added a lot this year and it's the 1st time I can remember the JETS spending $$$ since Leonard Marshall and Ronnie Lott came here. Some of us DO NOT want to risk all of that for a QB who has a history of throwing bonehead Picks and may bolt at any time. For some reason the Chad Haters fail to see that though.
Oh, and with Garcia on the roster, we send PennyBoy to the Vikings for a 7th rounder and a bag of doritos.
I haven't been the biggest Brett Farve fan over his career...... That said - I'm REALLY not a fan of Chad's right now - nor Clemens... It's a 1 or 2 year Flyer.... WHY THE HELL NOT!!!!!!!
I just have a bad feeling about this. I think Favre is one of the all-time great players and I obviously wish the Jets had got him in 1991. But the guy has been agonising over retirement for years and I don't see how bringing him in for one season is going to be good for the team. It's very likely he will retire again after this season. I also can't help but think that this would be so like the Jets! They miss out on the most productive QB ever by one place in the draft, then finally land him 17 years later. Mr Iron Man then gets hurt in week one and misses half the season and the Jets go 1-15. Favre retires in the off-season, then comes back and leads the Vikings to a Super Bowl. This is not a prediction! I'm not saying I think this will happen, but as a Jets fan I'm fearful because I've seen this sort of thing before...
Well, yeah, but what will it cost? I mean, I'd like to rent a Lamborghini tonight also, but I've had to cut back on frivolity in this economy.
The poll is too simplistic to be a true barometer of rational thinking. Favre is obviously available, at a price. I don't think there are many who doubt that Favre is better than Pennington and although we don't know much about Clemens yet, there's probably little doubt there either, since he's so inexperienced. A better poll should include a range of prices that we will need to give up, including draft picks, salary and maybe even what it does to our Cap. I had to vote no, based on the limited, overly simplistic choices.
Given the media's love affair with Brett, imagine the media attention the Jets will actually get if Favre joins them. New England Patsies, move over.
To reiterate, you all need to do some research on the direction of the cap. Salary considerations are fast becoming archaic.
i'd take him with a conditional pick that can turn into a 3rd if he plays 2 years with us. if not then its a 4th. then he'd have to agree to take a pay cut and only make 6 mil a year.
I'm all for bringing in Favre. We've upgraded our defense, OL & TEs. However, the QB position will hold us back & be our achilles heel. We're a QB & a healthy season from our WRs away from making some serious noise. It's something we should explore seriously. I would however, only trade a conditional pick, and how high that pick becomes depends on if Favre stays for at least 2 seasons. I'm not giving up a 2nd rounder for a guy that's a one season rental.
I'm not a huge Favre suck up he doesn't make my top 20. He probably is way past his prime and could really be on the cusp of sucking big time? Its still a hell yes. This team is among the most boring Offensive teams in football. We are trying to get tougher and less predictable on both sides of the ball. Favre is tough and unpridictable and would bring something to this team that it sorely lacks, excitment.
I have bad feelings about this also, but not for the some of the superstitious reasons you mention (i.e., he goes down, we go 1-15, then he comes back and wins a Vikes SB). I have bad feelings because he comes in here with very little time left, he has to learn our playbook, he has no chemistry with any of our WRs, he's not familiar with the Defenses of the AFC East and the NY pressure on him will be off the charts.... HUGE. So we wind up giving away some games we probably could have won because of all this and he winds up, like someone said a page earlier, at 2-6 with 7 TDs and 19 INTs at the halfway point. I never thought I'd say this, but I'd almost like to say that Pennington gives us a better chance of winning (eventhough he is NOT as good a QB) because he has a handle on all those thing I mention above and Favre may not. It's like, is the learning curve and adjustment curve for Favre worth the extra couple of games that a Chad Pennington coul dhave pulled out because he's got great chemistry with our system, our wideouts, our dump-off ability with RBs, extremely good knowledge of our playbook and coaches and opposing DEFs, not to mention he's a smarter man thatn Brett Favre is, now that no one will deny. So, yeah, is the total learning curve worth the cost and aren't we just spinning our wheels? Not to mention this all cost money, draft picks, putting all other QBs on the back burner, etc., etc. And NO ONE is factoring in the "Flake Factor," which I have mentioned before. I think there's a good chance the man needs some serious emotional counselling.
