I have been a Jets fan all my life, I am 26 years old. The first season I really remember was 1990. Bruce Coslet was the coach, the team went 5-11 or something like that. So I can't pretend to be a fan from the beginning, seeing every QB who lined up behind center. Everyone knows Broadway Joe was the best QB in Jets history. It is my contention, and has been since 2004, that Chad Pennington is the second best QB to wear the Green and White. Thats says more about the Jets inability to draft or secure quality QBs than anything else but I still believe it to be true. I suppose one could make an arguement for Vinny, but for those people we are going to have to agree to disagree. The bottom line is that whenever Chad is healthy (and its a big if) he has been successful. 2002: Passing title, Division Title, Playoff win (and awful loss but it was his first season of real playing time) 2003: Preseason injury sabotoged his season along with Herm's assinine Refief QB game against the Eagles. 2004: Brilliant season until Buffalo game where he tears his rotator cuff, comes back 3 games later and leads team into playoffs and a huge win over the Chargers in San Diego, followed by infamous Doug Brien game. 2005: Has the surgery several weeks after the Jets were eliminated from the playoffs by the Steelers (never understood why), tries to do too much too soon and looks awful before getting re-injured. 2006: So far so good... Thing is, as great of a field general Chad is, its hard to be confident that he can last an entire 16 game season. That being said, when he's out there and he's physically sound--he's the best QB this franchise has seen since Namath took his broken down ass to St. Louis back in the 1970s.
Good post, mister. Just wanted to correct the St. Louis thing, however. I believe you are referring to Namath's 1977 season when he played for Los Angeles.
As opposed to creating another thread, I'm just going to keep adding to my original thread when I feel like I have something to say. So, week one is over and it was more successful than even I imagined it could be. Number One in passing yards. AFC player of the week. Blah, blah, blah. I don't play fantasy football, so none of the stats even matter to me. The important thing is that you led the team to a victory...something you can do many times again as long as you stay healthy. "As long as you stay healthy..." can be said for everyone in the NFL, in terms of potential and ability. If you're good enough to compete, you should be good enough to win. And to succeed. There is no reason you can't win this weekend. None at all. You've beaten them before in the middle of their dynasty (when they were MUCH better). And though the dynasty is still very much alive as long as Tom Brady's there, the foundation is beginning to crack just enough. Now is the time to take a wrecking ball to the Pats. If they're going to get one of our picks, make sure it's a very low pick. And to help Mangini best Bellichick in this first matchup, well...I'm a sucker for tabloid fodder storylines. And that one would be just too sweet for the franchise. Just be you. That's always been good enough for me. See you at Miraclelands, er...Meadowlands! Cordially, The Green Lantern P.S.- Don't leave any points on the field for Nugent to put on the scoreboard. They might not necessarily make it there.
You're not alone. Every poster on every Jets board I've been on wants nothing more than to ram this idiot's head through a windshield...of a burning car. Personally, I think he should try out for Generation Jets
As far as the best Jets QB's are concerned, you have to give Joe the #1 spot. Chad hasn't earned #2 yet though. 1. Namath - Won our only Superbowl. 2. Testes - Did everything in his power to get us to a Superbowl, but the team came up short. 1998 was the best non-championship season of any Jets QB. Has always been there when we needed him to come back, regardless of effectiveness. 3. O'Brien - One of the most underrated QB's ever. If he and Marino had switched spots in 1983, Marino wouldn't be in the hall, but O'Brien just might. Plagued by god awful OL's through his entire career, O'Brien still gave us a shot every year. 4. The Chad.
why cant we be the cinderella this season? if you dont think we can win by a stroke of luck then why even watch, if you simply dont want us to win then just dont be a jets fan
Here here! I couldn't have said it better myself. I loved Kenny, I've always thought if he didn't have to run for his life like he did, and actually had some protection, he could've been all that. Vinny, I really liked too. He had some rotten seasons with other teams, but I thought he shined with the green and white. (it took me a long time to forgive him for the Penn State shirt he wore in the Orange bowl thou :lol Joe. First super bowl I ever watched, nuff said. Chad. I see sparks of greatness then let down, then up, then down....I'm supportive, yet cautious of getting "too attatched"
Thats the beauty of this season. We aren't expected to go too far, even by our own fanbase. So a game like last Sunday gives us a little unexpected hope. But if we don't find a running game and a run defense......
That's sad that you consider the 2nd best QB to be the one who had the uncanny ability to throw the BIG pick all the time!!!
I'm not a cult member. I was on record as saying he shouldn't play this year. I hope I turn out to be wrong and he stays healthy.
What fluke? We were SUPPOSED to win against Tennessee. I mean, a qb starting with about a minute of practice time with the plays/players. An AWFUL defense. I was definitely happy last week, but not overly impressed with anything beyond's Chad's ability. If we can beat the Pats, (a weaker Pats than we've faced in years at that) I'll be impressed. I will be impressed if this team's 4-4 going into the bye.
