Thomas Jones ran with a style that overprotected himself, and it left a lot of yards on the field, although probably extended his career. Here's a secret: so did Curtis Martin.

TJ was a still an outstanding back.

he had a great o-line. JAGs can put up big numbers behind a great o-line. also FYI his 1st year with us he averaged 3.6YPC and had 1 rushing TD on 310 attempts so yeah pretty shitty stat line his 1st year with us.
Sometimes I wonder if people actually watch the games or just look up stats only.
It's funny I went back to look for TJ threads and it's the same argument here with some people saying he sucks and his stats are inflated because the o-line and large amount of attempts and others just pointing to his yardage total saying he's good. thats over a decade ago, i guess some things never change

disagree. but it's irrelevant to cook this year at the end of the day. which really is irrelevant to this thread since this is about hopkins

    So true.

That style is seen as "old school" today but it was fairly common in the late 90s-early 2000s when running backs had to play 3 downs and shoulder the load. Martin ran low to the ground, both fell - forward - safely and ducked out of bounds when they could.

Now they just run the piss out of these guys by committee.

you gotta stop with that bullshit. For Dalvin Cook its one thing, he was a Viking, I get it, but I watched the Jets games, religiously, in the Thomas Jones Jets era.

In fact there are times today when I think back and wish I was out doing cooler shit than watching Jets football back then. Its also pretty dumb when you cite stats yourself whilst making a comment like that. "3.6 ypc in one season" yeah okay, like anyone cares

man struck a nerve? I was referring to thread back then. 12 years later you still want to do the same shit? you can remember things how you want just as I can. I don't really care, because it's the past. The point is whether we should go after cook or not. how do you not get tired of this nonsense?

Nah you didn't strike any nerves, I'm just saying you look foolish when you argue that way. But yeah we can talk Dalvin Cook. If he comes to the Jets I can only hope he has the same impact Thomas Jones did

lol yup lets pay a guy to never break a tackle, score 1 TD and average under 4 YPC. pretty sure bam and carter can fill the role.

still the 2nd part of cook is who goes. we won't carry more then 3 RBs bam can go on the PS likely. hall and abikanda are locks. that means we'd have to release carter to make room for cook. carter was top 5 in forced missed tackles as a rookie and has some really great games. He has potential to stick around for a while cook is at the tail end of his career, carter is at the prime.

I must've missed the "great games" Carter has had.

Ultimately though I don't really care, bring in talent and let them earn their spots. If Carter is good enough to stick they will cut another defensive back or something to fit the 53-man roster. If not, oh well, I dont think we will ever shed a tear for losing him

as a rookie he averaged 4.35YPC behind a rough o-line on a team with no pass game. thats pretty good. he was top 5 in missed tackles forced according to PFF.
His bets game was the mike white cincy game in 2021. he carried us to the 3 point win 15 for 77 on the ground (5.13YPC) 9 for 95 through the air (172 total yards on 24 touches)
He also had the 16 for 118 game against jax (7.38YPC)
and hes on a rookie deal going into year 3.

He might wind up a JAG sure but he has potential and is young and cheap and in his prime years. I get adding talent as much as possible but I think too many people are caught up on name recognition for cook and how good he was at 1 point (he was phenomenal 3 years ago) to realize he isn't the same player he once was

We should crown you dude. You were right about the backup runningback we signed being shitty.

it's not about me being right, it's about the attitude you and a few others have. the same thing you do over and over. someone doesn't agree with you. you call them dumb, troll them. you are proven wrong. then you troll them for being right. then you do it again on another topic and the cycle continues.

why can't you look back here and see how bad you look and IDK be a normal human going forward?

You’re really sensitive and arrogant at the same time. It’s not a good look at all haha.

90% of your posts in disagreement with someone else have some sort of diminishing statement about the opposing poster and includes a victory flag plant about how much more you know them. Yet I’m the guy calling everyone dumb. It’s wild how you try to call other people out on things you yourself do daily.

Did you have a different screenname during the Deshaun Watson threads--I know you were all in on ZW and I think you were into trading a host of 1st round picks for Watson but I can't find you commenting in those threads.

so you are at the "then you troll them for being right" part of the cycle. can't say i'm surprised.

I haven't called anyone dumb here nor do i treat people shitty. I actually show a lot of patience with people who probably don't deserve it. I give you shit once in a while when you get a little out of hand

    I never wanted watson.
I was very high on wilson which i was wrong on. everyone here was high on wilson or fields and everyone was wrong. it was a big split and caused a lot of issues.
    my screenname before was solidgoldbowles

everyone is right and wrong at some points. some more then others though. IDK why people make it a big deal

Cook has looked worse than I thought for sure and maybe I am just wrong about the guy, but it is a long season I still feel like he can be effective. Lets not act like he is running through wide open holes.

he was signed here with the thought we would have decent QB play and have some leads to pound the rock with, which hasnt been the case either

anyway, its not a devastating signing even if he is washed, he's not making very much

Yeah not sure why people make it a big deal like bumping threads from the summer to tell everyone you were right. :D
