The best part of this for me is the whole basis for Pats fans saying that Goodell and by extension the league are giving partial treatment to the Jets... because Roger Goodell is a former Jets employee. Never mind the fact that Goodell was just an intern for the Jets in 1983, for a single season. Goodell was so enamored by the Jets' organization during that magical 7-9 season under new head coach Joe Walton, that he summarily left to become a public relations weenie for the league again, to begin the planning of his masterful scheme to give partial treatment to that Jets team 30 years later as commissioner of the league. Gotta love them Pats fans.
GoPats makes some valid points. That can't be denied. We are euphoric from the Holmes and possible Aso signings. But we have to stay vigilant on what is missing: Yes, as of this morning the secondary has holes. I count on people being signed, but the starters themselves don't frighten anyone in terms of league respect. Can that change? Absolutely, but nothing is a given at safety right now. CB, as of right now, is the best CB in football and a rookie who showed at the end of the season the game was slowing down for him. I count on Wilson being a good #2 CB. But when you have the opportunity to get Nnamdi and place him opposite Revis, you do it. I'm a defense guy. I love games that are 7-10, 14-10. That's why I love pitchers duels in baseball. That's also why I'm a big front 7 guy. My front 7 needs to be top 5. The Steelers and Ravens do it correctly, and I want the Jets to follow suit. The Linebacking corps needs depth and one guy who is a young pass rusher who has a nonstop motor and can be a pest to opposing tackles. The Jets do not have that player. Any Jets fan who thinks they do is lying to themselves. However, scheme has masked this issue. Rex won't have to work on masking lack of rush with scheme if he had better linebackers. Yes, our ILBs are top 5. No one can deny that Scott and Harris are a nasty tandem. Ask anyone in the league. WR is okay right now. As of this morning, it does need a 3rd WR. Chansi Stuckey is out there, so are about 9 other capable WRs. This will get solved. TE needs players as well. Keller is a good TE, he needs another versatile TE to help in blocking and receiving. RBs are young. Two unproven. McKnight has dedicated himself to becoming a player in this league. I expect him to contribute and rid himself of the perception by most fans within the culture. We have no idea what Powell will become. That was a Rex pick. These issues are correctable through resigning players and getting the draft picks in on time which shouldn't be an problem. This team is still a top 5 AFC team and will be a playoff contender if healthy.
I love this conspiracy nonsense. Isn't it great to be a team that people readily suspect of occult dealings because they couldn't possibly be so awesome by playing within the rules? As for the holes on our roster, sure, but let's give Tanny at least a few days. Things seem to be on hold while Nnamdi makes up his mind, but if reports are true the Jets have contacted almost every other cornerback available on the market: I don't think we'll be caught out whatever happens.
Not to mention - please recall that Glazer showed a tape of Pats* players on the sideline working to impede the path of a gunner. It was much worse than the Alosi trip. He shows this on national TV. What does the "pro-Jets" Goodell do? I'll wait for an answer, GoPats.
I don't remember arguing any unfairness on Goodell's part. I assume that whatever the Pats did wasn't noticed at the time by refs (or media)? It is a little different to pull out a video from weeks or years ago and expect the same attention from the NFL. Also, I believe there is another poster 'GoPats' who has been here longer than me. Since I did kinda steal his name (unknowingly), I feel compelled to correct you guys for using it.
My favorite part was the comparison of Roethlisberger standing tall and delivering in the pocket compared to Sanchez cowering like a girl and crying on the sideline in the AFCCG. This in the same game that Sanchez had a 100+ passer rating while Ben had a 30 passer rating.
Quite annoying, especially considering that the original post had a link to the blog post at patsfans.com. But whatever.... obviously some people have nothing better to do
