The majority of the pressure was from the right side thanks to turnstile hunter. D'Brick had a down year but we know he's good and this season was just an off year.
Either stat is useless if you don't consider pass attempts. Sanchez was 9th in the league in attempts and the Jets were 17th in the league in attempts.
Remember that some sacks were also due to Sanchez holding on to the ball. Those are probably the ones where Brick couldn't buy Sanchez that 4th or 5th second. I know for a fact, the Hunter sacks happened literally 1.5-2 seconds right after the ball was snapped. Sanchez didn't stand a chance at times with Hunter at RT.
x2 a LOT of hunters were guys literally untouched. Not to mention Sanchezs inability to roll out to the right, his strong side due to hunters ineffectiveness, puts significant excess pressure on D'brick
Those stats aren't surprising. I did notice Ferguson's play diminish this year, with blown blocking assignments and stupid penalties. I'm honestly surprised he made the pro bowl this year with the stats he had. I just hope he returns to form next season. Mangold as well. I remember at least 2 turnovers that he is directly responsible for. It was a sloppy year all around for the oline. Even our pro bowlers were making stupid mistakes.
STARTING OFFENSIVE LINEMEN (SACKS ALLOWED) LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson -- 9.50 RT Wayne Hunter -- 8.50 C Nick Mangold -- 3.00 LG Matt Slauson -- 2.50 RG Brandon Moore -- 1.00 OTHERS TE Matthew Mulligan -- 3.00 TE Dustin Keller -- 1.00 WR Patrick Turner --1.00 OL Vladimir Ducasse -- 0.50 RB Shonn Greene -- 0.50
misleading. that's what happens when one of your tackles proves incapable. you have to lopside your protections to help the weak guy and the strong tackle's numbers inevitably suffer.
This was posted earlier in the day. It's true but the majority of pressure all season came from Hunters side. I have faith that Ferguson will go back to being a top RT, as for Hunter i'm not very optimistic.
brick seemed to play worse, but then again, so did everyone. did everyone on the offense actually get worse? did the head coach, OC, QB, RB, WR's and OL all become worse at their respective jobs? to discuss this, see every other thread on the first four pages.
Both edges were weak this season. Sanchez was under a huge amount of pressure, far more than the raw sacks show, and from mid-season on you could see the change in his form. Rushed passes, moving too much in the pocket when it was there, minimal use of pump fakes, etc. People who think that D'Brick actually had a Pro Bowl season should remember the look that Ngata had in his eyes when he crunched Sanchez from the blindside for a fumble a second and a half after the snap by splitting D'Brick and Slauson perfectly and coming in untouched. A blitzer doing that? Bad luck. A Pro Bowl DE/NT? Complete clusterfuck on the line.
Hunter was bad but i think having a short season hurt him. Hunter played well in the post season and at times blocks above average. The guy has all the physical tools to be a starter, its just his technique, and awareness that lacks. Even Slauson said that hunter is an amazing athlete, I think he needs a full training camp. Only then should we release him, the guy has the experience and some knowledge of the offense. Bringing in some new player may be a high risk low reward situation. I think we need to sign a RT to compete and potentially replace Hunter as a starter. Hunter is def a good team player and we don't have enough of those on our team. 2012 season to me has more potential than 2011. I say that bcuz our Oline should be a top 5 line in thee nfl. The Dline will get better through FA and draft. The Jets have the ability win the line battles, and that alone sounds like a super season.
Half the sacks Brick gave up came on plays where Mark was moving left to avoid the guy Hunter whiffed on.
