People said that in a "true competition" Vick would beat out Geno. But as this season proved Geno beating Vick wouldn't be as farfetched as some thought. So no Fitzpatrick etc beating out Geno isn't a sure thing. We cannot start another rookie qb unless we get a repeat of Seattle in 2012 with Wilson/Flynn. We need to sit and develop the qb. We cannot hand Geno the starting job so therefore we need a vet that can come in and compete with Geno.
I don't dislike Geno at all. In fact, I kind of like him, the same way I kind of liked Sanchez. I'm just not willing to watch a third straight year of BS QB play sink the team. Geno's young but he also has 29 starts on his belt and about 20 of them say he can't play QB in the NFL. I don't want to invest more starts in him unless it's almost certain that he's a much better QB moving forward than he's been over the last two years. I don't think the Jets can afford to come out of free agency and the draft without acquiring either a vet to play QB next year or a rookie to play in 2016 and beyond. And the rookie is going to be forced on the field early unless Geno is much better than he's been so far.
David Who? Oh one of the most overrated QB coaches in the league? I know who it is now. LOL Geno sucked no argument from me. To me it looked like he was getting some *****y coaching too.
Geno's main issue was Rex. Although I think we do need to sign and draft QB'S as well, we do not know what Geno will be with real coaching
Geno didn't beat Vick, he was handed the job, Vick was saying this from almost his welcome presser. We cannot hand Geno anything, definitely not based on end of season results which seems to be his wheelhouse. Geno Smith needs to be treated like a free agent with this new regime. No way he can be afforded any familiarity, he has to earn every shred of credibility he gets.
You can be sure we are signing a veteran QB and drafting on this season. There is also no way that position is a given going into the year, we'll certainly have a camp where it will be a wide open competition. What I'm hoping for here is this regime is open minded where it comes to Simms and actually takes a look at what this kid has to offer. I see a 4 QB competition going into training camp between a rook, a vet Geno & Simms.
I never said he wasn't handed the job. I'm saying that Geno could've beaten out Vick in a real competition.
he was handed the job BUT he did play very well in preseason and wasn't bad to start the season and when Vick came in he was pretty bad as well.
What exactly is it about Simms that you like? He just doesn't look like an NFL QB to me. He's not accurate and he's stiff in the pocket. The only game that he's looked good in was the 4th preseason game two years ago. It's easy to look good in the "nobody good plays" game. He wasn't really that good in that game either. He just completed a ton of 4 yard passes.
It's not really that I like him I'd just like to see some guys with offensive experience take a look at the kid and see why the previous staff kept him around . I just think we should start going through the talent on the roster and see what we have first. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I disagree. Vick knew the offense and could have gained chemistry, instead he spent most of the time running gadgets with the second team if reports are too be believed
Based on how Vick played this year Geno beating him out doesn't seem farfetched to me. They gave more snaps to Geno because he needed it and Vick supposedly already knew the offense.
Knowing the offense doesn't mean you can just step in and play like you have rhythm with the team, it's on Vick that he didn't take his backup role seriously but if he had been seriously allowed to play with the starters I think it would have been a very different story. The whole situation was crap, handled badly from top to bottom, but you can bet that Morningwood could have had Vick far more prepared than Geno looked all year aside from that anomaly of a Dolphins game in week 17.
You can't go off assumptions, he was brought in as a vet that could step in with minimum reps with the 1's. Based on how they played this year Geno was the better qb. Everything else you're saying is speculation. And you're right in the modern era perfect games has only happened 51 times so it is an anomaly.
The previous staff kept him around because they didn't have a clue about QB talent and haven't had a clue in that department for years. That's why we are where we are right now.
Sadly it's been for many years that we've had the clueless running the organization. Hopefully this time it'll be different. I like Simms' arm strength but that's about the only positive I could give him. I'd just like to see everyone get a look . You never know what you'll find when you start flipping over rocks ?
