Harris has way outplayed his contract. He's not due for another year, but if the Jets decided to follow their normal pattern with guys who do that they'd sign him to a decent extension this season. That's what they did with Cotchery (good) and Rhodes (bad). I put Harris in the Cotchery category of excellent players you want to build your team and locker room around.

    2 things.....

1.) Brick still has 2 years, Mangold has 1.

2.) To pretty much any NFL personnel guy or GM, a left tackle is an order of magnitude more important than a center, regardless if they are the best in the league at their position. To Jet fans not so much.

That is a great point. Harris makes peanuts. He is the one who deserves a much bigger raise. Sure, he isn't the best at his position, but he makes less money than a kicker/punter picked up from the streets. I would have no trouble giving harris a chunk of guaranteed money since he would have played four years, 64 games (minus injuries) for $4 mil, the amount revis wants for four games. Seriously, Revis has been a dick lately. First off, we gave him the best contract at #14th overall pick. Then, he wants to tear up that hefty contract and opens his big mouth to beat a ridicoulous contract. A lot of bullshit to me.

I can agree with this. It's easier to find a center that you're happy with than to find a left tackle that you can feel safe about protecting your QB.

Still, Mangold's contract is up before Brick's, he's the OLine captain, he's the best at his position and he is making holdout threats while Brick has mostly kept his mouth shut. The FO is going to be fretting over the idea of losing him, mostly because Brick hasn't been threatening anything yet.

I'm leaning toward the "Brick needs to wait until 2011" camp.

I'm all about the importance of the left tackle, but Brick is being fairly compensated. He's going to be the third highest paid Jet this season, behind Bart Scott and Mark Sanchez. He doesn't really have a leg to stand on.

With Mangold... yeah, he's in the last year of his contract, but he really doesn't have a reason to gripe either. He's the ninth highest paid Jet- that's pretty reasonable.

The only person who should be irate about his contract situation on this whole team is David Harris, who is in his final year and being out-earned by James Ihedigbo, Ben Hartsock, Wayne Hunter and yes, I swear... Drew Coleman.

And he's the only person who's saying "Let's just play; I'm not worried."

I'm pretty impressed by David Harris right now.

Let me be clear. Mangold has one year left. That is the reason the Jets should renegotiate with him.

The fact he is the best at his position has no bearing on Brick, who has 2 years remaining. He plays a position that is of much less value than Bricks, regardless if Mangold is the best in the league or not........ that is all.
