Yeah "best" is a very difficult and subjective measure, especially in football where there are so many moving parts that statistically have nothing to do with each other. If we're talking "most valuable" I think you measure that based on this question: "If he tore his ACL tomorrow and was out for the season how difficult would it be to fill the void?" I think on those metrics Revis belongs in the conversation, because there really is no one last season who could have done what he did. But Peyton still wins.
If i was building a team from scratch on defense. I would take the following before Revis Patrick Willis Mario Williams Nnamdi Asomugha (still the #1 CB in the league, sorry but Revis is going to have to do it more then for one year) Ray Lewis Albert Haynesworth (minus the attitude and lack of passion) Troy Palamalu Demarcus Ware
Oh come on! That's so bullshit it's not even funny! Revis is the best player at CB... too bad CB isn't nearly as important as other positions...
I think he is a top 5 player for what he does even though he is a CB. 1. Peyton Manning 2. Tom Brady 3. Drew Brees 4. Chris Johnson 5. Darrelle Revis. Imo. This could honestly be debated to hell. I'm sorry no disrespect to Nnamdi, but he loses so many points with the versatility issue. Not playing the entire field really bugs me about this guy, but I would take Aso obviously in two seconds on my defense, but before Revis? No sorry. Revis is so much very more versatile than Aso.
Nonetheless he has still held his own for many years while Revis has had one great year so far. Alot of NFL fans probably didnt even know who Revis was at this time last year. Revis has the potential to be good, very good in the coming years. But right now he isnt that far ahead of the likes of Aso, Bailey, Asante Samuel, Antoine Winfield, DRC, Leon Hall, Leodis McKelvin, and Ike Taylor. As opposes to the other people on that list. There isnt anyone even close to Manning, Brees, and Brady.
Ray Lewis before Revis? maybe 8 years ago, but not now. Willis is certainly a beast though, as is Ware. Polamalu is hurt too much, Haynesworth has too much baggage and Mario is certainly ascending but not quite there yet.
Iffy on Ray Lewis because of his age. But he still plays at a high intensity, is a rare true leader and makes sure others around him play at their best. I would take him simply for that.
Is this nonsense a joke? Please tell me it is some kind of level. If you are serious you are most likely a little bit brain damaged as a result of drinking too much water from the love canal. There is only one player in there that can sniff his jock at the moment. BTW Revis has had 1 great years and another otherworldly year...............
Revis actually had above average years since he stepped foot on a NFL field. I think Aso has become more widely known ever since the season Darrelle Revis had last year. Edit: BTW MiamiPuck. That is an amazing avatar.
Again im not trying to downplay Revis but he's been elite for 1 year. But compared to the skill level of qb's after Manning, Brady, and Bress it drops off considerably. Same with LB'S after Willis, R. Lewis, and Ware. Aso and Revis are the top 2 corners but they have some after them that are highly skilled as well.
08 wasn't very different from 09, but he didn't go up against that many elite WRs in 08. This upcoming season he'll go up against more elite WRs than 09.
I didn't see this. Except for Aso, there is a huge drop off from Revis and the rest of the guys you've mentioned. You're not very good at analyzing players if you feel those guys are close to Revis' talent.
Or perhaps im not sold on Revis as you Jetsies fans are. We'll see how he does this year against Evans, Moss, Marshall, Rice, Jennings, Calvin J, Andre J, and Chad J. Those are some tough receivers to guard all in one year he's gonna get burn't a few good times this year. I would probably even put money that he atleast gives up 4-6 100 yard receivers this year.
so you didn't follow last season? He went up against those WRs and better ones such as Reggie Wayne and didn't give up what you are predicting. Its not about us being sold on our own player. its about the no shit analysis laying in front of us.
I love Revis, but a dominant LB or Lineman is more important. So Revis cuts out 1/2 the secondary -- so what ? All a good QB does -- see PM, Conf. Championship -- is throw to the other side. Revis can play a perfect game and our secondary can still play terrible overall.
Again, ONE year he has done it and he got burned on a few plays last year. I specifically remember Teddybear Ginn getting by him for a TD. But I'll be back at some point in the season to check in with you all. Especially week 4. If Revis hasn't been lit up by then he will we
yeah man Revis is certainly the real deal. he went up against Moss twice, Andre, and Ochocinco plus others and barely would give up t50 yards. as a fins fan, he certainly has my respect
holy shit dude 1 play. Has your prized possession Jimmy Kelly ever thrown a interception? Or lose 4 Superbowls?
