Yeah he was always sort of a jerk as charles hailey referenced in his book.Very unlikeable as a player.Hes always been pretty fair towards the jets outside of your reference above & hes been outspoken about the patriots nonsense..so i cant hold too much of a grudge
Good listen of Mike Francessas Monday night broadcast. All Jets and their win over Detroit. Lots of talk about Darnold, how hes loved him from the beginning at USC and compares him to a young Rothlesberger. @ around the 9:45 minute mark gets intersting in that he compares the two because of size, escapability and arm strength. Talks about when and how the Jets knew he was their starting QB in preseason game 1. Near the goal line where he threw the TD pass the line broke down and they watched assuming he would take the sack and keep the FG in play but he spun around, avoided the sack, rolled out and made the TD throw. That was it for the competition, he proved to them what they knew.
The INT was inevitable and obviously was going to happen in that situation. Sam wasn’t seeing the field well all game. Horrible pass play calls too by the staff.
Only so much you can do with 5 eligible receivers who can't consistently get open and the defense drops 7-8 players into coverage. Especially with an o-line that can't block.
We may never see Darnold’s long ball w Bates playcalling, this OL & WRs running lazy routes That was a super conservative game plan.
Still say SAm is the real deal but it was a bad night for him. That said, I blame the CS and his receivers and OL more than him.
The QB has something to do with the OLine’s success at blocking too. Look at the difference between Taylor and Mayfield tonight. Taylor was harassed the whole time.
The offenses success starts and ends with the offensive line. When the o-line sucks, you don't have to respect the rush as much and can drop guys back to frustrate the receivers and QB. The QB then gets hit more from coverage sacks and hits, rushing things and affects accuracy. Our lack of investment into the o-line has been killing us for years and nothing changes.
I saw a couple of plays where it looked like Gregg Williams had EVERYONE up at the line with Robbie Anderson lined up outside in man coverage. Have to take a shot there at least once. Hiw much is that coaching or Darnold's decision I don't know. I do know that most of our receivers aren't getting the ball consistantly in this offense right now.
It's not all on him. O line has to give him a pocket to stand in for more than two seconds if the WRs are gonna get down the field. Still it's concerning. Our offense is a good running game + short passes with yards after the catch as our big plays.
The first red flag I saw was one of the few times he tried to go deep during the Lions game and the ball just floated up there to Robbie even though he eventually caught it. His arm just seems weak. Almost Pennington-esque.
I don't know if its his lack of arm strength, play calling or the inability to block long enuf on deep routes but we're definitely not taking shots.
