Spot on, Colorado! #82 (Crowder, the receiver to the left of #10, Berrios) is where the ball should have gone. Crowder was open, and Berrios is really too short to give that pass a good chance of completion. I couldn't believe Herndon and Perriman being confused about where to go and running to each other. Hopefully, Saleh will get Herndon's face early and let him know that if he plays like he did last year, he'll be out of a job. On the play right after that where Darnold throws it behind the receiver, there's a WR 15-20 yards downfield wide open that would have had an easy TD, and Darnold either didn't see him or was afraid to throw it. I agree that it was a very good analysis overall, but he did miss a few things.
Here is a breakdown on Trevor by Tim Jenkins. Granted game selection is FAR from ideal, but still pretty fun to watch:
Who the fuck is this guy? Guys like Tim Jenkins and TJ O'Sullivan have solid reputations working with and playing QB, never heard of this fellow.
This is the same expert that, last year, had a certain Jets QB rated ahead of Justin Herbert... yep. James Morgan rated higher than Herbert. Yes, he most probably has no fucking idea what’s he’s talking about. But maybe, just maybe we may already have our QB. Imagine if we did. Trade back at 2, get another 1 next year. Trade Darnold for late 1 this year. 6 1’s in 2 years. Holy Shit this team could actually be fucking good.
Problem is we really have no idea what we have in Morgan. I would have preferred he got snaps instead of Flacco last year. But now best case scenario for Morgan is if he does look really good in a preseason game maybe someone offers a 2nd or 3rd for him if they were a team that also liked him.
Completely agree with Flacco sentiment. It was an aarp convention with him and Gore limping around. God a hate Gase.
It looks like this guy goes for shock value sometimes. I just scanned his web site a bit. Takes are all over the place. Will Grier is one of the best rated overall in years. Herbert is garbage, Mahomes is a great prospect, Trubisky and Sam are amazing, Fields is not a first rounder, Murray best in years, etc... So, actual record is basically random and no real football credentials. Safe to ignore this guy. I could see your point though - Wilson does have something special and even some reputable folks are saying they might go with Wilson. This is surely nice to hear there are two special guys on similar level, given we have #2 overall, however, I think most GMs would still readily cut off their own testicles if it got them #1 pick and Trevor!
Yeah, watching Gase have WR's run long developing routes where no one gets quickly open was maddening.
I am thinking maybe Morgan just wasn't ready and in this case it is good they didn't throw him to the wolves. Given we had Gase as a coach I think this was to Morgan's benefit. He was after all only a 4th round pick, coming off a subpar season in College. Some seasoning wouldn't hurt. As far as his prospects, if we can flip him for a second rounder that would not be the worst thing. However, it's not a bad idea to have two young QBs on the roster. As with most QBs taken that late in the draft, they will need to work their way to be a back-up in practice, and then step in when starter is injured to get their chance. The book has not been written on Morgan yet, but after college career that wasn't stellar, he needs to work his way up, starting with winning back-up QB competition from Flacco or whoever is there.
I don't think anyone thinks Trubisky is amazing. His point was that Trubisky could be usable in a one-read/quick hitting offense. On Wilson, yes I have heard people saying that Lawrence and Wilson aren't as far away as some think and there will be movement with some people placing Wilson as their QB1. It will be a minority but it will be out there.
Even if Zack Wilson is measurably better than Sam Darnold, you still have to step back and examine the whole team. For example, would Zack throwing to Braxton Berrious for the next 4 years be better than Sam throwing to DeVonte Smith?
Well, if the scenario was keep Darnold and pick a pass catcher I pick Kyle Pitts. If the scenario is take Wilson 2, Jets can get a real nice WR at 27. Someone will be there that's a lot better than Berrios.
DeVonte Smith at 2 then Kyle Pitts at 23 would transform our offense for years to come, more than any rookie QB could do without those guys.
I'm not sure why you picked Berrios but wouldn't the question be Sam throwing to Smith versus Wilson throwing to a rookie drafted at 23? And honestly, there no way of actually knowing this right now. I'm glad to see you back to advocating for Sam. Your get Watson post made me worried you fell off the Sam train Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
The thing is, a lot of posters and media have questioned Fields' ability to read Ds because he held the ball so long, but the truth of the matter is that the OSU has a lot of long developing routes as well and that's often why Fields had to hold the ball so long. A lot of people have no clue what they're talking about, yet they're full of opinions. We're all guilty of that to some extent as none of us are privy to all the details at either the NFL or collegiate level, but some are definitely more knowledgeable and experienced than others.
I don't know that that is the best case scenario. He could be our backup for the next 10 years and a reliable spot starter. IMO that would be better than just getting a 2nd or 3rd round pick for him.
Yes. The QB is THE most important factor in the QB/WR relationship. It's infinitely better to have a QB who can consistently read the D, is poised in the pocket, who can throw with anticipation and with accuracy, than one who can't do those things consistently. The former QB will make his WRs better. The latter QB will make his WRs worse or get them injured. Keeping Sam and taking Smith would basically be wasting that pick. It's not even close.
Morgan very well may not have been ready, but I don't think he would have seen the field even if he was. Gase knew that his job was on the line. There's no way he was going to play a rookie QB this past season or any younger player that he didn't have to play. He was trying to win to keep his job. He didn't care anything about developing young players for the future. The only way Morgan would have ever seen the field is if both Darnold and Flacco went down with injuries. Even then Gase probably would have wanted JD to sign an emergency veteran QB and would have started him over Morgan.
