Decent article on Wilson. At this point, everything considered I believe he will end up #2 pick in the draft, going to the Jets bearing Watson trade (which is very far from done deal). I am thinking he will ace the interview part of the process, including hot reads, situational questions he will be asked, etc... Also, while undoubtedly Fields is a superior athlete, people would pretty much expect him to have great speed and size. If Wilson bulks up even a little bit, which is really not a crazy idea at all after two months of weight training he said he is doing now to gain muscle, and shows athletic ability he's always had, being multi sport athlete in high school, he will exceed expectations and pretty much lock the #2 pick in the process.
cant help but wonder what it'd be looking like if Fields hadnt out played Jesus off the gridiron in the semis, but lost in the final. like if he played lights out but they lost atthe death... his last game woulda been brilliant. instead of MEH.
and thats not a slap to WIlson, who i think is legit. his "build" is about as relevant as Russ Wilsons height. Same build (H/W) as Cousins, LJ,Carr...
I didn’t see anything about Senior Bowl but apparently Mac Jones is impressing everyone there. He was interviewed by a couple of teams including the Texans. Let the games begin.
That was almost as much a damning article on Darnold almost as it was a sales pitch for Wilson. One of the things that bothers me about Darnold is he doesn't "look good" throwing. His motion is uncomfortable to watch a lot of times and it is as if he isn't a natural passer of the ball. I am not an expert, but this seems to be the poor mechanics that people harp on. I'd be OK with wilson. Less so with fields, but still OK.
you say "harp on" almost as if the claim is not legit. now, all QBs have to make only arm throws sometimes. thats a thing. but Sam does it when he doesn;t have to. You watch his follows thru and his right sorta snaps down on the rigt side of his body not like this
I went through the 1st 2 years saying this @JetNation... was treated like a pariah. I'd be like... he simply just missed him, guy was open, couldnt even get his hands on the ball.... they said "all QBs miss guys" yes. thats factual. But it was the FREQUENCY they seemed to ignore. and the bad throws they COULD get a hand to was automatically categorized as a DROP, You levae 4-8 plays on the field over a year? thats a shitton of yards 1st downs time of possession.
i've posted about the twitter threads that were all over this PREDRAFT eliot crist and ryan mccrystal
"He has been using poor technique for so long that it will take serious work to retrain his skills. " THIS, from the aforemetion ZW breakdown article
I didn't think his last game was bad actually. He missed a few throws when under pressure, which Mac Jones easily made in the same situation and had a few throws where he just put too much juice on the ball, but he could have easily had 3TDs in that game if receivers did a tad bit better. He was careful with the ball, and showed clear improvement over the same type of pressure from Northwestern. Fields is still a great prospect. Take a look at below: the guy is literally the most accurate passer in College. And this is on top of being supreme athlete with great size and big arm. And he is accurate past the first read as well, just sometimes waits too long to make that read.
MEh is MEH, MEH is not "bad." Basically, what I was TRYN convey was he'd be a lot "hotter" w/o the final. And that the bias has affected the news/talk about him cos , as you said, he' still a great prospect.
Final did not hurt his stock, I don't think. I would take the guy as #1 overall in most drafts. It's just that in this draft there is Lawrence, and Wilson's ascend is really quite remarkable. Pretty rare combination of accuracy, mobility, throwing on the run off platform, throwing off different angles, ability to scramble, quick processing of the reads, tight window throws, athleticism. Basically he is every bit as good a prospect Sam was with even a bigger arm, but without most of Sam's weaknesses, such as super TO prone, not very accurate, questionable decision making on reads. Wilson's injury and size is a concern though. The whole reason why we have not heard of the guy before is because he played with shoulder injury/post surgery for two years. This is the first year when he is healthy. If the guy comes in bulked up and shows athleticism he has on the combine, and gets clean bill of health from doctors, which are all very realistic possibilities, I think we got ourselves a really nice QB, who can start at some point this year if not right from the get go. And if health is a concern, I would not hesitate to take Fields, though he might be a but further away from starting than Zach is.
I do think Mac Jones is underrated, and who knows, he may end up even a better player than some of his higher regarded peers. However, I do not think he will go #2. Teams put a lot of emphasis on arm talent, athleticism, and mobility, where he is behind guys like Wilson and Fields. And these guys are accurate too. If Wilson and Fields realize their potential, their ceiling is higher than Jones'. Another thing to note is that Mac Jones leads all QBs this on first read rating; however, beyond the 1st read he is only 23d. Supporting cast sure made a difference for him where he does not have to look for second read often, and first read is usually open, so as good as he is, the statistical numbers are a bit padded. I do not think he enters the conversation for #2 pick, but might end up around top 10, and I sure would not want to see him go to NE.
no but we can trade back for him. right now my QB rankings are 1) tlaw 2) wilson 3) jones 4) lance 5) fields those are likely the 1st rounders.
we disagree here. i mean... maybe not to SOME but his chatter went away. i really think you do the whole body of work myself. and that yuo think long about what you think he can be. i was just pointng out that he is barely mentioned of late, and i think his last game is why.
