I think part of Flacco's success was due to the play calling. Wasn't that the couple of games Logains took over the play calling. He gave a boost to the offense for a few games until Gase got jealous and took back the play calling. Logains wasn't great but he was better than Gase!

I see what you're saying there, you still think he has hidden potential right?

The Sam love sneaks into the best of us whilst we aren't looking, it's okay, let it out and you will feel better. ;)

So how in the heck is he a fit for this offense? The answer is that he isn't. There's no way he should be back.

I never said Sam was a total bust, or he would not be worth any draft pick now. I don't think the book has been written on Sam yet, and there is a chance he might become a decent player, a chance akin to that of someone like Morgan, or a mid round pick a team could take a gamble on, who may possibly become a decent back-up or even starter at some point (though chances of that are not overly high). That's why I think it is possible to get a 3d round pick or so for Sam, and that's his worth right now.

Where I have an issue is when people say they want to roll with him as a STARTER. That part is a little mind boggling. But as a back-up with some perspectives, I think there is place for him. For the Jets though I really want a starter to be the focus, and Sam should not be mentioned in the conversation for a starter at this point. Maybe if we do end up with Watson, he could be in the conversation as back-up. Though my preference would still be to recoup a pick for him if we can, and keep Morgan and a vet, like Flacco, as a back-up, whom we can get without giving up a pick.

The amount of space he gives to Stafford is ignorant. Detroit has publicly stated they would work with Stafford to send him to the team of his choice. His choice wont be our 2-14 butts. People need to stop thinking we have a chance at Stafford.

The only valid deal in this article was his #4 - Watson for too many assets. That will be the Texans actual demand and people around here are in some type of ice cream fantasy where they convince themselves otherwise.

I'd like posters to ask themselves an honest question. Say your the new GM of Houston. Your star QB wants out and trading him is going to makes the fans pissed. Your roster talent is declining and your salary cap is screwed. The Jets are offering you a trade for Watson.

What do you want from the Jets in this trade?

No, they've actually developed this ability to high science. They're just waiting for the league to return to the "3 yards and a cloud of dust" approach and then they'll be ahead of everyone else. It's genius!o_O

The question shouldn't be what do I want, it should be what will I settle for. I would want everything....5 1st rounders, he'll make it 6! But the reality is that no one is giving them that. I would take the best offer and call it a day. Guy asked to be traded. He doesn't want to play for my team anymore.

No you need high draft picks and you need them right now. Not 2 or 3 years from now. You need our #2, 23, and 34 this draft. That is, and will be, Houston's main demand.

Pretending we can throw 2022/23 1sts at them and keep a 2020 1st is a fantasy. For that they could trade with any team. Our value to them is the #2, and the fact that we have 2 #1s this year.

I would want all 2021 and 2022 1st round picks. You can make an argument that he's worth that and more.

First, I need a QB back in the deal. The jets don't have one to trade that I trust to be a starter in this league. The #2 pick MAY get you a starting QB, but most likely won't be nearly as good as watson. And to make up for that difference, I need more picks to help build.
Second, I need to try and save face in this debacle with my fans, the media and the rest of the league. No team has ever traded a player with this much impact. A 25yr old top 5 QB who is just getting into his prime has never been moved. This will be a shit stain on the texans for years if he has a good career wherever he goes and if he wins just 1 superbowl, it will be viewed as the biggest fuck up in league history if houston can't do the same.

Has anyone here actually said that? That they want Darnold as the starter? I don't think so. What I've said, and most others have said, is that they think Douglas and Saleh might want to stick with him and see what he can do with good coaching and talent. Personally I do believe he would be night and day better, but that said, I wouldn't take that gamble if I believed I had better options - i.e. I was sure I could get a better QB in the draft, or obtain Watson for a reasonable cost. But if I had doubts about those options, I might well roll the dice with Sam but I would also try to grab a "Tier 3" QB like Jones or Trask as insurance with a later (sub #2) pick.

But the point is that it's not a lot of people - if any at all - who are happy to keep Darnold, we're just realistic about what's likely to happen.

I never said we could keep a one this year. I figure both of this year's 1's and one of next year's 1's.

Houston is in shambles. They are not going to be able to rebuild this in a year and they will need picks next year as well.

Just went to very first page, and someone said "I'm willing to roll with Sam for one more year." This sounds like a starter to me, given he was a starter for three years, and people want to roll for one more, and there were many posts like this throughout. Also look at the poll. Do you think many people who voted for Darnold voted for him to be a starter or back up next year? It is a mutually exclusive poll that eliminates many other solid starting options.

If I am wrong and what people mean by "rolling with Sam" and voting for him, is that want to keep Sam as a back-up, I am not totally against it. Say we get Watson, and can't trade Sam, then I am OK with him staying in as back-up. But even then, we will give up picks for Watson, and Sam might fetch a pick back, so that is probably a better route. If we get a rookie though, like Wilson, I am not sure if I want Wilson, Darnold, and Morgan, and would prefer to sign a vet and get a pick for Sam. However, this is not the worst option and most importantly we need to get some other FQB starting option at the position, like Watson, Wilson, or Fields.

Saleh: "Sam Darnold is an unbelievable talent"

I sure hope he is just talking him up for trade value
