And if Darnold had even played solid this year, I think people would tend to see your stance more. But he wasn't, he was bottom 3-5 in every meaningful passing statistic. IMO, it is time to move on and send him to someone to try and salvage.
Taylor F'ing Heinicke looked better than Sam did at any point this year. Darnold is absolutely shot. How tf can people still make a case for wanting to see what he has left? Just move on and whatever team he goes to, cheer him on. That's what I'm going to do. There is no denying the that Jets did him no favors, but come on, the dude has been awful here.
Darnold is a bust. Ray Charles can see that.. we need to get what we can this year because we will be releasing him for nothing next year anyways
Good evaluation! If the Jets plan on drafting a FQB, they will trade Sam no matter the return b/c the organization wants to boost Sam's career. This will improve the reputation of the organization by taking care of its players.
Ron Rivera's teams average ranking are 17th in the NFL in terms of yardage and he has a first time coordinator in Scott Turner calling the players. Heinicke did that versus the 6th ranked total defense that was 5th in the league in sacks. That's not to say their coaching isn't better than the Jets but that wasn't exactly an Andy Reid gameplan out there.
You're right, it wasn't Andy Reid at all. It was just competent. That's a massive step up from anything the Jets showed under Gase.
Maybe, but JoeD has a reputation of NOT trading a player he wants to trade unless the trade deal is good enough. I forget the exact player (Leonard Williams?), but Joe had offers during the draft but kept the player until a better offer came later in the season. He could do the same with Sam. Joe turns down a 4th round offer during the draft then trades Sam later for a 3rd.
No, of course not. But it's frustrating seeing guys like him and Gardner Minshew outplay the golden boy and read the laundry list of excuses as to why he can't even muster up 200 yards passing and a touchdown each week.
If you think Sam would be better, or even equal to Allen had he been drafted by Buffalo then you aren’t watching many Bills games. Week after week, game after game, Allen is making plays with his arm and athleticism that maybe 1 or 2 other quarterbacks are capable of making. He is phenomenal in all aspects of the game. Sam doesn’t have even close to the talent or skill level that josh Allen has, and he wouldn’t make any of these plays Allen is making.
It's nuts right? Every other team in the league moves the ball up and down the field at will and here we are watching a different sport every Sunday from Sept to January. If it's Gase, the QB, or both, Darnold has done nothing to warrant the 25 million for next year. It's time to just suck it up and reset the QB clock. It is what it is.
regardless any way you look at it allen adding 4 points by himself in a game they won by 3 is huge. had he not done that even with the missed FG and the bad 4th down decision colts still win
that's fair. taylor is serviceable. but mahomes is a top 3 QB in the NFL and under 25 years old. in hindsight anyone would have taken him. that's the whole point.
just chiming in to applaud both BrooklynJetsFan and JohnathanVilma on their excellent debate. Watched and learned in awe i also don't envy the Jets FO which i suspect is having, or has had, its own analogous debate. I honestly see both sides of the debate. Ideally Sam is good+ but has been seriously misused as BrooklynJetsFan suggests so that we can use that draft asset more wisely. At the same time JV makes excellent points and I know it's really hard to insulate your thinking from sunk costs and move on from bad investments sorting through this will be Douglas's biggest decision to date, and maybe ever....
No, that's not the point. No one is suggesting Mac should have predicted Mahomes would be MVP. All we are saying it was critical to recognize QB was our biggest need and take a talented one in the draft, like 90% of this board has been saying at the time. It would have been Watson or Mahomes. Mac could not miss if only he had known the obvious: we NEEDED a QB. Bills had already a decent QB, and didn't need it like we did..
I get that but on the other side he still drafted an all pro player who made the pro bowl 3 straight years for us and then our new GM was able to trade for 2 1sts and a 3rd before we had to pay him. it's hard to shit on that. had he drafted a bust at 6 like john ross then I could understand the hate
Very excited at the potential Fields' performance tonight holds for the Jets. Very nervous that he's really, really banged up - as in probably shouldn't be playing - and won't be even a fraction of his normal self.
