We just lost to the Dolphins on Monday night and our D got it's ass handed to it by the Wildcat. I don't know why anyone is surprised that there's gonna be some negativity flying around today. I can't help that a loss like that puts a big dent in my hopes - at least for the moment - just like a big win for us would have boosted my confidence. It doesn't mean that I'm any less of a fan or will be pulling any less for the Jets next week against the Bills. I'm not throwing the towel in on the season by any means, it's only one week, but it's one week that freakin sucks and I'm not going to feel any better about it until next Sunday comes around. I'm a Jet fan of 30 years and will never root for another team and I think I've earned my right to be frustrated at a moment like this. It doesn't mean I don't see the positives that were there too - sure there were some good things to point out - but it's the morning after the game and I'm in the dumps. Just my 2 cents...
And that attitude is exactly the right one. I'm fucking tired of the two extremes. One side says "I'll never get my hopes up again for this team", and the other is trying to offer up excuses for the loss or mention how it could be a positive. Are you fucking kidding me? I'm not going to feel better about this game PERIOD, but I'm sure as hell not giving up on the season. That's the part people are getting frustrated with, not with the frustration you feel after this game. We're all feeling that. I almost got in my car to go beat the shit out of a good friend of mine who decided to talk shit seconds after that loss. Part of me still feels like it. No one is surprised by the negativity. We're pissed off that there are people today who admit that they've given up on this team period. Why bother even calling themselves fans?
I don't follow the logic of giving up on the team, esp considering how banged up we are. I'm not saying that's why we lost last night but the reality is we're not a healthy football team. If I rememebr correctly, weren't Rhodes and Cotch on the injury report as questionable? And not to mention that Lito and Strick (who both looked fantastic the first 2 games of the season) have missed the last 3 games We'll be fine, last night hurts but jumping ship makes no sense whatsoever. If you're seriously considering jumping ship I question your validity as a Jets fan.
This is such a bullshit thread hat my sole intention was to come in here just to say it was a bullshit thread. I'm baffled how the OP seems to be happy about the fact that we lost to an inferior team. One bad game and everybody jumps off the bandwagon. There is nothing wrong with being a darksider but we are 5 games into a new regime with a rookie QB and a new defensive scheme and we are 3-2. Sorry but I had us pegged with my darksider goggles to be 1-4 at best. The D was due to have a bad game and it happened last night. It's over and onto kicking the shit out of Buffalo and Oakland. Then we get payback on the Phags. The team made some bad decisions last night and it didn;t help that the D played bad. Who am I to convince you that this isn't SOJ but I have seen nothing in 5 games that would lead me to believe this is SOJ.
Kinda proves the point right there. Anyway, the point is that this team does not get any benefit of the doubt untill it DOES SOMETHING. All the tough talk and bells and whistles mean dreck until they win SOMETHING. As I said, I'm pissed at myself for getting excited, I should know better. Hey, I don't know what is going to happen the rest of the season, but I'm going to be a lot more tempered now. If they rip off 10 straight, I'll still have my doubts. Those will end when I'm at the victory parade downtown and the SB trophy is being carried by. Till then, its wait and see. And doubt.
While I thought this game would be a no-brainer, well, SOJ. What I'm surprised at are the comments that the wildcat is a "gimmick" offense. Gimmick plays only work part of the time. That supposed "gimmick" made our "elite" defense look like sh*t. It isn't a gimmick; it is an effective offense for teams with less than stellar offensive talent.
Re the phins talent: We have mediocre wide receivers and unenthralling tight ends. But our two main backs are a guy that a team (admittedly, the Saints under Ditka) gave up its entire draft for and the #2 overall pick in the 2005 draft. We have a tackle who was the #1 pick in an entire draft and two highly regarded free agents in our O-line, Smiley and Grove. We run the same play out of the Wildcat over and over and it works because we have talent.
We were 2.5 point favorites. We were winning with 10 seconds left, and then we got our hearts broken with a loss... Anyone who wants to jump off the bandwagon, whine SOJ, and bitch and moan and be "Woe is me" Jets fans, be my guest. Just don't jump back on when we beat Buffalo 28-6 next week. The Dolphins won the division last year. Whether they did it by smoke and mirrors or something else, you can debate that all you want, but they won 10 games last year, and now their offensive line is better. They're a hell of a running football team who almost beat the Colts on the strength of their running game. We had a hell of a defense through 4 games. One dud doesn't ruin that. Granted, it was ugly. Very ugly. But there is too much talent, and there's enough of a track record where I'm confident it will get turned around. Beat Miami in a month, and nobody cares. The SOJ mentality...god, it just pisses me off.
ORLY?!?!?!?!?!?!!? I'll just say the Cubs for starters, I'm pretty sure when can fill a post with Teams who haven't won a championship in the last 40 years who have been considered relevant in a pro sport during that time.
One bad game? Did you miss last week's game against the Saints? That's two bad games in a row. Last night one of those assclowns calling the game mentioned that there are 15 1st round picks on this team and repeatedly gushed about all of the talent on the Jets roster. Well all of that talent got an ass whoopin' last night...and last week. And if their not careful, they'll get beat again net week by another team that they are supposed to beat. You mention that the D played bad(ly). Don't get me wrong, I agree with the agressive philosophy on D, but saying they played badly is a gross understament; they fucking sucked in all aspects of the game. There is nothing that you've seen over the course of this season as an indication that these are the same ole jets? How about every year the Jets lose to teams that they are supposed to beat? That is tantamount to SOJ. Another SOJ trait; the first 3 games the team showed some promise, then they go and lay two eggs in a row. That seems to be a pattern that I've seen documented in other posts. Inconsistant play over the years. Play well enough to show signs of vast improvement and then flush it all down the toilet. When this teams wins the games that they are supposed to win, after they stop making novice QBs look great, when they play well consistently, maybe then the SOJ sentiment will cease.
wrong- Last week our D played great, and Sanchez did not. Vice-Versa this week, our D was bound to have a game like this and I doubt it will happen again. get some Prozac or something.
I talking about the whole team, douchebag. Offense sucked last week, D played great. Offense plays well this week, D absolutely blows. As a team 2 bad games in a row. Thus my point about an inconsistent football team. I understand that they need time to put it all together, but last nights performance by the D was pitiful.
Losing games on the road against two teams who made the playoffs last year when you have a rookie quarterback is not the same old Jets. "Inconsistant [sic] play over the years." The Jets have played well enough to show signs of vast improvement, but you're telling me that losing to New Orleans and Miami is flushing it all down the toilet? Against New Orleans, Sanchez was the culprit. His poor ballhandling almost singlehandedly cost us the game. He's a rookie. He'll learn. I've seen enough good from him to think he'll be a good QB someday, but it's not going to be easy all year this year. Still, this is a fixable problem. Maybe not fixing all the way because the guy is still a damn rookie, and it will take time, but he played well in the first three games and showed some flashes last game. We get some soft defenses coming up, now it's time for him to show what he can do again. Against Miami, the defense was the culprit. For four games, we may have had the best defense in football. Now, all the good we've done is flushed down the toilet? That's crap (pun not intended, though I kind of like it). The defense will be fine. There is too much talent on this defense and through five games, I think it's clear which game is the aberration. Of course, they need to prove again that they are, in fact, elite, but the fact that we were 8 seconds away from winning this one when our best unit played like garbage might be a positive sign. This team was not going to just coast through the season. There are too many new parts at key spots for that to have happened. Now, take out the frustrations on Buffalo next week and Oakland the week after. Then, we get Miami again. If Miami beats us again, you have two weeks to complain.
The NFL, AFC more specifically is more balanced this year that it has been in awhile. I think it will be a very exciting season from here on out. Seriously for all teams there just really is no GURANTEE wins.
I can't take it either. All of the sunshiners proclaiming that the Jets will lay down an ass whoopin' NEXT week. It's always next week, next year, blah blah, blah. Seems to me that last week I heard about the pounding that Miami was going to take. Didn't happen. Stop living in fantasy land, dreaming about what the Jets might do next week and deal with the reality of last night's (and the past 40 years) embarrassment.
We're playing the Bills next week. Cleveland just beat them. CLEVELAND. Miami just beat them by 28 on the road. This was a Dolphins team that we nearly beat last night. You want to live in the past and dwell on failure, be my guest. I, and other rational Jets fans who actually try to enjoy their fandom will look ahead to next week and see a team we should slaughter. If we don't beat them up we have some problems. We have Buffalo and Oakland the next two weeks. You think those teams are actually beating us? It's not like we lost to Detroit and St. Louis. We lost to a couple pretty good teams on the road. It happens. Last night was as embarrassing as fans who have been here for 5 years and only post after losses or heartbreaking moments to gloat.
