I'm not a football historian, but has a CB ever gone up against this many #1 WRs in a season? Look at all the names, Moss, TO, Wayne, Chad 85, Steve Smith, etc. If the Jets had two average CBs they'd get toasted. This is the best season I've ever seen from a CB.
What's really great about Revis for fans like us is even in games the Jets lose, you can still appreciate his stellar play, and when they win, his ability to shut down the opponent's #1 is always a factor. And of course it's not just that - the ability to move safety help to other defensive assignments is huge. What a great season for him.
That, and he's not flashy at all, he just does his job and that's it. I do like the class of players that are here, we don't have the dancers and secret chest bump/handshake makers.
Agree 100%- I've always hated those types of players and love the fact we don't have schmucks like that on our team.
Talkers but now on the field break dancers. No ones pulling out a marker or dollar bills on the field.
Yeah, Revis has a better supporting cast. But I think that makes him even better. If all other WRs are covered fairly well, then Revis will get more looks and teams will try to squeeze in anything they can get. Revis has shut down almost all the looks from teams. Its very easy to be shut down corner if your 2nd CB and safeties aren't covering good enough. Teams won't even care who you are defending and simply attack other DBs. Moss looked very uninterested in playing when they came down to New York cuz he knew he didn't have much of a roll besides 'taking out' one of the best CB from the game along with himself.
I like the look on Delhomme's face after that 2nd int. http://www.nfl.com/players/darrellerevis/profile?id=REV515344
im pretty sure he actually says what the fuck at some point in that clip. he learned the hard way not to even try it when revis is in the area.
I don't think anyone thinks any less of the Pats for that bomb at the end except for some Jets fans. Rhodes came out before the first game saying he wanted to embarrass the Pats. Throwing a bomb in that situation is the on-field version of saying 'We want to embarrass you, too'. I'm a Jets fan, but I'm not going to stick up for players if they can't back up their talk. I'm a fan, not a shill.
thats why revis is the man he lets his actions speak he doesnt need words with the way he plays. Rhodes up until last week did his talking with words and his playing suffered. Talking the big talk doesnt make you a great player.
I have all offsesaon said that Revis needed to prove it for two straight years in 2009. Said it back in September, even after he took care of Johnson and Moss, because that was still only two games. I am now ready to put him as the best Cornerback in the NFL after seeing what he did on Sunday. He single handly won that game. Thomas Jones contributed a tiny bit, Rhodes as well, but Revis won 95% of that game and shut down Steve Smith, which is like Chinese War Torture. Screw Asomougha. Screw Finnegan. Revis is #1.
So weren't you wrong in saying he needed to prove it for two straight years? You seem a little late to church, my friend.
I really hope Tom Brady and Randy Moss approach every Jets game for the rest of their careers with that same mentality. "How can we embarrass Revis?" That'll equal some wins for us.
HAHAHAHHA I'd like to see the Bills do that. Revis will double his INT total from this week against the Panthers. Revis has become the best corner in football
