I wish I brought a camera last night, on the sidelines Woodhead and Leonard height issues And the Wild Men from Borneo Mangold, Izzo, Faneca scary trio
So, you're advocating keeping him for the sake of not letting him play? What the crap? Our inactives should be players who are going to make an impact on the team in practice. Woodhead's an undersized, overachieving back. I don't see how he's going to help us prepare for the majority of running backs in the league. Guys make college teams because they're feel good stories. This is the NFL.
Uh, why? I like Woodhead, and I obviously loved Wayne Chrebet, but why exactly is it a requirement to have "a Wayne Chrebet" on the team? Also, if we're going to allow any undersized, overachieving player to be Wayne Chrebet (since Woodhead doesn't even play receiver), why not just call Jim Leonhard our "Wayne Chrebet"? He doesn't play receiver either.

We need a Wayne Chrebet on this team, and that's Danny Woodhead! I'd love another diamond, but Woodhead is no Chrebet (outside of being short and white). Unlike Chrebet, Wood has Leon, TJ and S. Greene to contend with. Yesterday's game aside, he hasn't shown me anything extraordinary. He had a great game last night with some big runs. He won't play here unless injuries, he'll probably be on the PS unless picked up by other team.
I'm getting sick of the "Woodhead is the new Chrebet" thing. We packed Keyshawn's bags because this fanbase was so obsessed with Wayne. F that. I don't want to know who the next great talent we give up will be so we can have a "feel good" story to talk about. I adored Chrebet, but if I could go back and change things, Wayne would be gone, and Keyshawn would have played his entire career in Green and White. Buh bye Danny! Good luck elsewhere.
+1 I like the Rudy story with this guy, but I think he would get eaten alive against NFL starters. I don't want to use up a roster spot that could be used for a trench depth player on a feel good story. Hopefully he catches on with another team.
We have to have inactive players every sunday, at the present time I'm guessing that Woodhead would probably be one of them. You think that having this shifty speedster RB on the team won't help us at all? Remember that Shonn Greene seems a little fragile. I'm sure that's going through the minds of the FO and coaching staff right now.
Can you provide an example of the trench depth player that's going to get cut in place of woodhead? I'm advocating tossing Caulcrick by the wayside for Woodhead, but if it's going to be a D Lineman that loses his roster spot because of it, I wouldn't approve. So I agree with you, but still what D lineman Pitoitua? What O lineman? Stanley Daniels? It's a coin flip with those two guys.
I think there's more of a chance of Caulcrick being needed than Woodhead. Richardson is getting up there and we have 3 guys ahead of Woodhead on the depth chart.
Daniels I don't think will make the team, but I would prefer to see players like Caulcrick, Pitoitua and Potter make the team over Woodhead.
My prediction is that Woodhead will be staying. His skill set is more valuable and far less replaceable than any of the back-up trench players referred to herein. He is bigger and faster than Spoles who has demonstrated the value of having this type of player on a team roster. Thomas Jones will be gone after this year ( if not sooner). If either Leon or Greene were to get hurt, where do we turn? The draft? Finally, and perhaps most importantly, Rex Ryan and his message to his players is all about each player working his ass off and doing everything they can to support each other, cover each other's "backs" and being accountable. Ryan is also known for instilling an underdog "it's us against the world" mentality" in his players. It seems to me that Woodhead exemplifies all the qualities and virtues of hardwork, commitment and dedication that Ryan is trying to convey to his players. It was plain to see how much so many of the incumbent starters like Cotch and Jones, for example, are supporting and rooting for him. Woodhead worked his ass off recovering from his ACL tear with every opportunity is showing off more and more what he is capable of contributing. I personally believe he should be converted into a hybrid player in the vein of Percy Harvin because he is so explosive a player in space. Ryan would be shooting himself (and his message to his players) in the foot if he cuts Woodhead who has endeared himself to his teammates and fans alike. He offers a hell of a lot more than a "good story".
Maybe he is. 4.41 vs 4.5 http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/football/2005/draft/players/58618.html http://juicedsportsblog.com/2009/05...ed-danny-woodheads-tough-road-to-the-nfl.html
Beat me to it! I love Richardson, have considered buying a Richardson jersey, but he is older, and we're going to be a run-first team, which will mean he will take a lot of punishment. We need Caulcrick simply as a safety valvue. Woodhead is a good kid, I really enjoyed listening to him after last night's game, and if we didn't have 3 RBs who we all know will play, I'd probably be advocating for him. But the reality is, he'll be (and should be) a victim of the numbers game. Wish him the best, though.
I remember a lot of posters here questioning the idea of keeping Sowell on the team while we had such an excellent starter in Richie Anderson. Most thought that Sowell was kept on the team due only to his STs prowess. But when we let Richie go, Sowell stepped in as an excellent lead-blocker and Curtis had his career best rushing year running behind JS. Lead blockers are very, very important to a team that is run-first like the Jets are going to be. And seeing as Richardson is in his twilight years, I don't know how they'll be able to realistically let Caulcrick go to hold onto a luxury player like Danny Woodhead.
