Honestly, for me, it's not so much about Caulcrick himself, as it is the position. We have zero depth at FB, which is going to be a very important position for us this year. We have depth at RB, so it's unbalanced bringing back Woodhead rather than keeping depth at FB. Personally, I'd rather have Neal as the backup, so this is truly not about Caulcrick. As for Hobbes ridiculous Brady is only an NFL QB because we took out Bledsoe, Brett Favre took Chad's job last year. One of those two was in the playoffs last year. Did the best man win the Jets' starting job? Comparing Brady to Woodhead is far more ridiculous than that, but we can play this idiot game all day.
I agree... I mean, Jason Davis isn't exactly a Pro Bowl FB and the Jets signed him instead of Caulcrick... I guess that must mean something right? I would be happy if he (Caulcrick) develops into a starting FB but at the moment that's as probable as Woodhead becoming a starting RB... My guess is Caulcrick will be given another chance next offseason when T-Rich supposedly will retire...
Its not abot JC , its about having another FB on the active roster, and more importantly, a young FB who will grow with the rest of the team , learn the plays and become a valued team member. I believe that Davis the latest FB was cut in favor of Bobblehead, so it looks like we are back down to 1 all over again.
I'm gonna laugh my ass off a year from now if everybody is sitting around here raving about the now stronger, faster, Danny Woodhead looking a lot like another Leon Washington in camp. I think Greene could probably be pressed into service as a FB if TRich is injured.
Any FB that replaces TRich is going to be a step down, we can sign a guy off the street if the disaster happens and TRich goes down. The TE we just signed also has experience as a FB. It is just amazing to me that this is now a 3 page thread on a practice squad that will probably change about 10 times between now and the end of the season. It is pretty clear the CS thinks highly of Woodhead, who are you or I or anyone to question that.
No, the baffling part is that Davis was cut in favor of Ryan Fowler. We sign a new LB and can't find a cut among the DBs to bring him in? This somewhat falls in line with my belief that we need some regular season playing time to sort through those corners.
That's the issue I'm having here with some posters , when it comes to depth in important areas like ( FB/TE/OL/DL) the argument is what's the big deal its just the PS , we'll just convert a player form another position or sign someone off the street. But when it comes wonderboy Woodhead, there's speculation he can play anywhere and replace anyone because the CS talked him up during TC and he has all the value and intangibles or Tom Brady, Leon Washington , Steve Smith etc....... Bottom line he's a novelty who's getting rewarded for doing things every player trying to make an NFL roster do - work hard .
You think that people hate/don't like Woodhead in here? Thats not the case, hes just not needed, most likely at all. Greene is going to be the huge disappointment IMO. He just screams as being a sicknote.
Exactly. I don't dislike the kid. That would be like hating my little brother. Who the hell doesn't want to see the little guy fight his way to the top? If I honestly felt: 1) He would be able to perform the same way against starters 2) There was an actual need for him 3) He wasn't taking up the spot that could be better spent on an actual need I'd love to see the kid on the team. But I don't feel any of those. I just feel like he's a great story. Great stories win Pulitzers, but I want a Lombardi.
So now we are LOADED at RB and at QB............???? 2 moves that have me scratching my head a bit. The only thing I can think with O'Connell is that the FO were maybe going to go after another QB in the draft for depth and O'C came up first. Pretty sure KC will be gone by next season. After smoking the whole of Columbia, the only reason to keep Bobblehead is that we are not going to extend Leons deal and in fact trade him.
I agree with the first, given that we've all known for a while now that this would be Clemens' last year in green. The second part, though, I seriously doubt...although you sure seem to be laying on the sarcasm. I'm guessing they simply couldn't justify keeping him on the active roster and rolled the dice on waivers. He cleared, so they made a judgment call. Kick Caulcrick off the PS and hope he's interested in resigning if we have a problem. It wouldn't be the first time we've removed him from the PS for a while only to bring him back.
If we had kept Ian Smart...er...Danny Woodhead, we would have beat Houston 38-7 due to sheer will and determination.
